"JOSEPH---ANY DREAM WILL DO"
I think those at the top should have been more cautious with Connie---she was unexperienced, and excited and keen---but they must have known that 8 shows a week for someone like Connie was going to take it's toll, and they should have insisted on her having a break in the week.
I know people pay to see Connie---but she is not Superwoman !!

This is very disappointing for patrons who in this case have payed their money primarily to see and hear the new talented star. After all as good and successful "The Sound Of Music" has been, surely most people have either seen another production, or seen the movie, attended a singalong, know the songs.
This sometimes happens with an announcement or may be on the programme that you don't see until you get to the theatre, that the role of a particular performer has been changed.
We saw that this was happening with "The Rat Pack Show" that we wanted to see, mainly for the person playing Sinatra. ( who we had seen previously ) We decided not to even take the chance.

Yes I agree with all you say Lena and Harry---but I still say that from nowhere to 8 shows a week is just too much, for an inexperienced singer--especially in such a demanding role. I think that in new "Joseph" and also "Grease"--the main roles are not as long.
I have seen many shows with understudies in--and most of them have been terrific. When I first saw "Phantom" Sarah Brightman was the star--but that evening Claire Moore was in her role--quite unknown then--and she was brilliant.
And it is a good chance for some of the other "Maria's" to get a go---Aoife is Maria for a few shows now.

I agree, Marian. Since I don't know many of your actors and often don't spring for the programme (I expect them to be free!), I don't know whether I'm seeing an understudy or the "star". I remember when I saw Miss Saigon on my first trip to London in 1990; everyone was so upset that Lea Salonga and Jonathan Pryce were not performing that night. I didn't know who they were at the time. But it didn't make any difference, because I loved the show and was incredibly moved by the performance of the entire cast.
Yes Miss Saigon is a wonderful show---I did get to see Lea Salonga and Jonathan Pryce---but with all these big shows now, the casts are constantly changing--look at the new "Guys and Dolls" in only a short while , it has had a huge turnover of male leads. And as for "Phantom " I would not have a clue who is in it now, but it is still bringing the audiences in . I saw that 3 times, with 3 different leads--and in fact Michael Crawford was my least favourite!

There was a much more serious feel about the Joseph show this evening.
Now it's down to the last Twelve, resulting in lots of tears for those who were shown the door
much more than there were while searching for Maria for "The Sound Of Music "
There are some good voices among the entrants and at the moment we have a feel for Craig or Keith, but who really knows at this stage.
Jason Donovan who first appeared as Joseph in the west-end production appeared as guest on this evening's show, and to let us know that he can't sing now.

I really enjoyed tonights show again---Last week, they did not show many--if any-really bad auditions--and some of the voices tonight were really great--I was surprised at a few of those who left, but I guess they were looking for more than a good voice--but the "look" as well.
I think my favourite is the young boy who sang "High Flying Adored"
{another of my favourite songs from Evita-I adore that show} who forgot his words--was his name Keith??--I cannot remember-I think it was.But not sure if he will have the stamina to do 8 shows a week-he did not look strong.

Who saw the Joseph show tonight.?? We thought it was great.
All very good singers, although when it came to the voting we thought it was fair that Chris had to go.
We picked Daniel and John as the best singers tonight, but it can all change week by week

I saw the Joseph show tonight---but I thought it was Chris who went.
I thought the show was really good---some great singers-and they chose some excellent songs. I had not realised before what a great voice Daniel has. I would not like to pick a winner at this stage--although Lee looks good for it--he sounds great--has had some experience--and I can see him as a Joseph !!

Whoops, yes sorry Marian, it was Chris who went. have edited it on the posting.
I had it so fixed in my mind that it would be Craig who would be voted out. Funnily enough last week I thought that he would be the ideal Joseph with his good looks for a start, but he will have to step up with his performance and personality etc.
It's sometimes difficult when singing and dancing at the same time, like Rob for instance, we couldn't hear the words that he was singing, but it's all part of what they will be required to do.
Must get our hearing aids overhauled.

Really enjoyed the "Joseph" show last night too. They seem to have found some excellent singers. I favour Lee too at the moment, but things can change. He has stage presence, and his voice carries well, obviously because of his previous theatre experience. I also agree it was difficult to hear Rob's voice clearly which was a complete contrast to Lee's.
