Dusty Springfield

Post by Marian » Sun Feb 04, 2007 3:47 pm

I thought we'd discussed Dusty Springfield on this forum before, but I couldn't find her on the list.
Anyway, I see from today's paper there is going to be a musical based on her life story in the West End, when a suitable theatre becomes available.
Apparently, it has been a great success in Australia.
I nearly got to care for Dusty close to the end of her life when there was talk of her coming to the hospice where I worked at the time. However, she eventually decided to stay at home until the end.

Marian.

Yet another tragic ending, after the likes of Lillian Board and Alma Cogan, who we talked about a few weeks ago
"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On" :(

Yes, I couldn't believe it when they announced on the radio she had died, I didn't even know she had been ill. Love classics like LOSING YOU, STAY AWHILE, I CLOSE MY EYES AND COUNT TO TEN and of course YOU DON'T HAVE TO SAY YOU LOVE ME. She also made a single with Richard Carpenter about 4 years after Karen's death called SOMETHING IN YOUR EYES. Another great classy singer.

Hi All

I'm glad to see the spotlight feature is on Dusty Springfield this month.
'Dusty In Memphis' is a super album, and I think 'I Just Don't Know What To Do Myself' is one of the saddest songs ever, beautifully arranged and sung, and is my favourite Dusty song.

We agree with you Gray. That is a great lengthy write up on Dusty. There are some nice Video clips on YOUTUBE.
" You Don't Have To Say You Love Me" is a favourite of ours.

Indeed - another sad story and seemingly tortured life. But what a tremendous talent. 'Son of a preacher man' is sensational, as were her many other classics. 'Just don't know what to do with myself' is a wonderful track, even after you've heard Cameron Diaz murder it (on purpose) in 'Best Friends Wedding'!

I always remember my Mum commenting on 'another Dusty comeback' - she never stopped trying to get back on top, and her songs with the the PSBs were a great swan-song - I think they produced 'In Private' for her?

Here I go again, I hear those trumpets blow again.......
