ONLY CONNECT

I was not quite sure where to put this post, but I think I have the right section.

Firstly--has anyone else watched "Only Connect"-a quiz show on BBC4 at 7.30--my sister and I both love it.

It was the final tonight, and this is quite a difficult quiz, and the final was even more diificult.

So imagine my amazement, when they came to the picture round, and the first picture was a face that I know very well---it was our Matt--I thought I was dreaming--the next picture was Shirley Bassey--then Tom Jones, and the aim of this round is to give the answer to the 4th picture, and the connection----I am sure that most of you have it by now--I will give the answer in my next post--but believe me, this is a very very difficult quiz--noirmally--oh and by the way--they did get the answer.

Here is the answer, as i am sure most of you know--it is of corse James Bond films,
1st--Matt Monro--From Russia with love
2nd--Shirley Bassey--Gold finger
3rd Tom Jones--Thunderball-

4th--the final Connection--Carly Simon, You Only Live twice

and as I said the connection is James Bond Movie Music--in order.

Well we did get the answer to the singers Marian, although there could possibly have been Two Or Three answers. We have never watched this programmw, probably watching something else at that time, but i have just looked and seen how this quiz works, and it's not so easy to think out the connection, specially in quick time.

I'm confused. Shouldn't the fourth be Nancy Sinatra?

Carly Simon recorded Nobody Does It Better but that was in the '70s.

Paull-you are quite right, and I am totally wrong--I wrote them down ffrom the tv, to copy up here, and as usual could not read my own writing !! But at least you understood how the game works--the answer could only be Nancy Sinatra, as they go in order.

By the way, for anyone interested , that series starts again , tonight channel 4 at 7.30--but you will have to wait till episode 16 to see the pic of Matt.

Hi Sandra---I was beginning to think that Jill and myself were the only ones who watched it--we are eagerly awaiting a new series, as the previous one was 2 years old. We also think Victoroa Coren is a great presenter.

By the way -it is on BBC 4-not Channel 4--tune in if you want your brain tested !!!

Thanks for the clarification, Marian. It sounds like I would enjoy this quiz show. It reminds me of the Mindbender and Masterquiz in the Daily Mail's Coffee Break. I look at those questions and never know the answers and switch quickly to the Kakuro, Sudoku X, Hidato, KenKen, and Cross Number. I prefer number puzzles ; I guess that's why I can't get any of the Hang Anyone or Matt games.

Funnily enough Paul, the last game in the final , which is called The Connect Wall, where there are 4 different groups, was all munbers based--I cannot remember them all, but I recall one was the Freezing temperatures of water, in 4 different scales.
When mixed up with a load of other numbers, its not so easy.
