They were so unlucky and should have finished up at least 4-0, but at just one goal up we were like you Robert, so nervous at the end that Slovenia were going to snatch an equalizer.
Anyway Germany are nowhere near as good as the teams in the past, regardless of their 4-0 win over Australia. In fact few teams have really shone and Argentina struggled a bit last night, so fingers crossed for Sunday.

REDEMPTION

Campaign back on track
and belly fire regained
(in Port Elizabeth, where else?)
our Sunday sights are trained
on sudden death in Bloemfontein
when we clash with the old enemy
and our nimble spitfires again
out-manoeuvre mighty Teutonic power,
producing a reprise of England's
Sixties finest hour ...

:D

Sorry to see the USA go out, Henry, but I don't think they deserved to win today

Yes, we were disappointed the USA went out too. Thought they might have at least equalised by the end of extra time. Nice to see Mick Jagger and Bill Clinton sitting together enjoying the match. :)

What a disappointing performance by the England team, regardless of Lampards disallowed goal that was clearly over the line. David James made at least Two great saves, but their defence was rubbish. They were totally outclassed by the Germans. A great shame for the whole country and the fans.

FULFILMENT FORECLOSED

From our point of view the beanfeast
turned out to be a flop,
the head waiter contrived to let
a palatable dish drop;
the ingredients in what was served
failed dismally to gell,
and the blame may be hung round the neck
of the chef, truth to tell.

Well tripe was served up today Keith, but with generous, but serious intentions we could manage a few tips. Like for instance...the next Four years, get the scouts out looking for some younger players who are hungry and have an appetie for the game.

Watching Argentina and Mexico this evening was a different game Robert.
We wouldn't have a dogs chance against either of these teams.
Time to go home...

I couldn't bring myself to end my verse
with a rhyming couplet about diners
in an adjoining room being elated and sated, L&H.
It's a mystery to me that world-class Premiership
players could perform so poorly. :?:
