Hi Robert, Mariana44, Marian, Jinty, old Uncle Tom Cobbley an all.
The article in the Sun newspaper this morning showed the Euro winners without their hideous attire, and rapper Daz Sampson declared that there were some very good songs in it this year. So considering his opinion and on the outcome of the contest voting and his relatively low score, can we assume that he agrees with the majority of us here and in the uk that his rap song was a crap song
Robert, yes Freddy Garrity was indeed interviewed by Ed Stewart. In fact he mentioned his health problems on this interview. This talking live to artists of which there were many, was always a popular spot and a regular part of Ed's Sunday programmes, Al Martino was another, and Gilbert O Sullivan was one of the last that we remember.
When Al Martino toured here last year, he was again "Artist Of The Week"
on Ed's show but Ed's assistant Lynne told us that they weren't including interviews at that time, but it may have been due to Ed leaving the show.

Hi Lena and Harry and everyone. I love your saying Lena and Harry, that Daz Sampson's song was "a rap song , but a crap song"  very funny.
Sorry to doubt you regarding the Ed Stewart show. I didn't start listening until a couple of years ago, so I must have missed the interview segments in the show. I do remember Al Martino being the artist of the week.

My tears will fall now that your gone :(

Hi Robert, The interviews on Ed Stewart's programme were also possibly stopped in order to save money for the poor old Beeb and the governing cut backs After all they generously only charge us £131.50 for our TV Licence and that's not all, if we persevere and take care of our bodies and reach 75 we can watch programmes like the Eurovision contest for nothing :?

:D Even Terry's interval banter has become dated-time for us to quit this farce?

Hello Lena and Harry, Mark and everyone. I don't know about getting rid of the Eurovision Song contest now, as when Lena and Harry receive their free TV Licence, they will hope for it to be on every week!!!! as it will be FREE for them to watch. Trouble is, Lena and Harry will be the only ones left in the country watching the progamme.  Apart from the other over 75 year old's.

My tears will fall now that your gone :(

Hi Robert, we wouldn't bet on it, unless we lose our marbles before reaching that age. Right now we're still recovering from Saturday, :( and Mark, yes, Terry's continuous banter about the acts , tongue in cheek perhaps, but no matter how bad the acts are or how bad the show gets year after year it doesn't dissuade him from returning.

I'm joining this debate very late - and maybe you all hoped that the Eurovision debate was over  But I actually enjoyed this years contest, and even though I didn't like Daz and his sing, he certainly put his heart and soul into it! The songs from the likes of Russia, Malta,Greece Sweden, Romania and Belgium were all great 'pop' songs in the contemporary vein, and I even liked Lordi! Bear in mind that the Finns didn't really expect to win, but the song is certainly a great 'Rock Ballad' and no worse than anything sung by Black Sabbath or Kiss et al. Not my taste in music normally!

I would agree that the show has changed a lot since the days when Pearl & Teddy sang 'Sing little birdy sing', but when you bear in mind that our 1963 entry was a pop tune called 'The ring-a-ding' girl, I'm not sure that its ever taken itself that seriously.

Matt sang a wonderful tune in 1964, and Kathy Kirby was robbed by France Gaul in 1965. As to its future - not sure. Its like the EU growing every year, but I guess thats another debate!!!!

Hello Mike. Nice post above, you certainly know your Eurovision Song Contest, don't you. Well done again.
As grant said in another post, variety (in music) is the spice of life. I agree completely about that statement, but Matt is definitely my top's.

Hi everyone---now that this Eurovision debate seems to be over, I just want to add a little more. For those who can remember, I was really struck with Brian Kennedy and his song, and he got a respectable number of votes with it. I decided that I liked his voice so much , that I would buy his new cd--ordered it from Amazon--then waited and waited and waited........Normally Amazon are very good, but I decided to cancel my order, ordered ftrom ebay, and cd arrived within 2 days.

And Wow, it is a great album--some lovely words and music on there , all except one co-written by Brian. He includes "You Raise me up" which has to be the best ever version of this song, beating Josh Groban, and Westlife--although I liked their versions too, as it is such a great song. And after hearing his Eurovision song a few more times, I am astounded that it did not do even better---but as we all know, the best entries do not always win.

The message in it reminds me of a 21st Century "Wind beneath My wings".

Anyway, if anyone out there is thinking " Shall I--Shan't I" --I would say definately YES.
