Please buy and support

May I join Paul in urging everyone to support dear Shirl by buying the CD single. This first week is the most crucial in securing a good chart position. It's only 2.99 pounds at HMV. Enhanced CD single comes with 7 versions of The Living Tree as well as 2 music videos playable on pc. Let's push Shirley Bassey to the top of the charts one more time at the age of 70.

I hate to be a wet blanket, but I couldn't see Dame Shirley anywhere in the Radio 1 mid-week charts.

Hi Jeff - Shirley sang 'Get the party started' for the M&S Christmas campaign last year. A fantastic Bond pastiche piece of film accompanied it. I think I can see M & S being your kind of store

I will definitely buy her album if it has that on it! However I think you'll find UK chart positions do now include mp3 downloads as a record sale, so I don't have to go and buy a track the old fashioned way in order to boost its chart position

Shirley Bassey's new album "Get The Party Started" is available for pre-order at both HMV and Amazon. HMV is cheaper at 8.99 pounds but they don't deliver to overseas customers. Amazon has posted 11.99 pounds as the pre-order price and postage is extra at 3.50 pounds. CD WOW has yet to list the album due out in May.

The Radio 1 message board still lists Shirley Bassey as being in the top 40. I'm not sure which midweek chart you checked Marian. Radio 1 isn't allowed to post an official midweek chart. I haven't gotten an update from Chart Refugees yet.

Terence - The HMV website says they still ship overseas. However, the shipping charge is now so high that I usually use recordstore.co.uk, but they have mostly have rock music. For some reason, I have a problem with amazon (probably because they were never a real retailer), so I won't order from them.

Michael - I saw the M&S advert with Shirley Bassey when I was in London last November for Fans Reunited. Get The Party Started is definitely on her album. Here is the full track listing according to HMV:

1. Get The Party Started
2. The Living Tree
3. Big Spender
4. I Who Have Nothing
5. This Is My Life
6. Slave To The Rhythm
7. Can I Touch You There
8. What Now My Love
9. Kiss Me Honey
10. Hello
11. You Only Live Twice
12. Where Is The Love
13. I Will Survive

I could do without I Will Survive and Hello. I think Slave To The Rhythm is the Grace Jones song.

The latest midweeks have The Living Tree at #33. Let's hope it holds at #33 or moves up by Sunday's chart!

Wow   - what a fantastic line up of tracks. And before I read your foot note Jeff, I was thinking 'Hello!? why would she record that. The same goes for 'I will survive'. Anyway - the rest all sounds brilliant - a real mix of very old, quite old, old and some new!

Amazon are pretty efficient at what they do - HMV online orders take 1 week to arrive, where Amazon turn up in 2 days. I only buy books, DVDs and CDs from Amazon as I think I have mentioned before. I Anything else I get from John Lewis!

Is "Can I Touch You There" the old Gary Glitter song :?: if so, it seems a bit of an odd choice to me
"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On" :(

Can I Touch You There / Bhs / Hello

Post by paul jh » Fri Apr 27, 2007 11:49 pm

Robert - I believe it's the Michael Bolton or 98 Degrees song. I'm sure it's a power ballad.

Michael - I thought two days ago you reported shopping at Bhs on Oxford Street. :?: You certainly are a John Lewis company man. Reminds me of my father. :)

Let's hope she can do something interesting to Hello. Anything would be an improvement over the original.

Fans have reported that Shirley has done an amazing version of I Will Survive, restrained and with a new beat.

Paul, the chart I looked at is the official Radio 1 chart positions, but I see it dated 22/4, so Dame Shirley's probably entered the charts after this date. All the best to her for tomorrow's chart.

Shirley!

Hi All,
Apart from singing (but I had to cancel last night for the first-time ever with a sore throat - 4 shows this week ruined it plus announcing in ASDA Swansea!) in ASDA today there was no sign of Shirley in the Top 35!

Club Chart

Post by Terence Lee » Sun Apr 29, 2007 12:56 pm

Shirley Bassey's The Living Tree is #12 in this week's Club Chart. This means DJs are playing it in clubs all over England!
