Katrina Leskanich (Katrina and the waves)

Post by Hilary » Wed May 24, 2006 11:26 am

Hi Everyone,

I have just searched the web for Katrina and yes she is still performing and releasing music which is good.
I had a little listen to her sample tracks and her songs are just lovely.
She is writing her own material now which is good.

I seem to remember that she presented a week day show on Radio 2, I think it is the show that Janice Long presents now. It goes out after midnight!

Katrina has now moved back to the US but still has a home here in the UK.
Her music is only available through her own website and not sold in the shops.

I do believe that Chris De Burgh, (I think that's how you spell his name!) does the same thing now. Maybe this is how thing's will be from now on as sometimes the best artists aren't able to get their music on the shelves because the "masked men" have taken over now. :o

My Brother is a big fan of the singer Tina Arena.
She has moved from Australia now and is living in France.
All of her music is recorded in French and only available through her own website. :)

Best Wishes,

Hilary :D

Hello Hilary. Great "photo" of yourself Hilary, about time we saw your nice smiling face. I am not very fashion conscious these days, but is that a "top hat" on your head. If so it looks like you are either at Royal Ascot or at a Wedding or something. You will definitely have to let us all know now Hilary. But whatever, you look great in the photo. :D :D

Probably a good idea for artist's, to sell their own music, as that will cut the record companies out of the deal. Giving the artist's much more of a profit, as it is they who record and sing the songs in the first place. So they should be the ones who make the most profit.

My tears will fall now that your gone :(

Hi Hilary and Robert---yes Katrina did do a show on Radio 2 for a while. I did not know that Chris De Burgh is selling through his website--he has written some great songs, and was in fact one of my husbands favourites-I actually had one of Chris De Burgh songs at his funeral service.

Another singer -songwriter who sells via his website now, is Dean Friedman--I guess most of you will only know him via his song "Lucky Star", but he has written some brilliant songs, so if you get a chance , give him a try.

Hello Mariana44. We don't hear much about Dean Friedman now do we.??
"Lucky Star" was a good song, but my favourite has to be "Lydia".

Hi Hilary, from Sunny Oxfordshire  nice to see you, and hope it's sunnier there than it is here in rainy old London. and they are talking of a drought aren't they :? :?
Anyway, it seems that for some time, Katrina and the Waves were quite successful in Germany, but like many performers it eventually came to an end, also thanks to you all for your recent postings, we have to confess that we haven't even heard of some of these mentioned singers and songwriters. must be the age thing :( :( It's becoming quite an education for us.

Hi Robert, Marian, Lena and Harry,

Robert - Yes I am wearing a top hat in the picture!
The photo was taken about two weeks ago at my Uncle's wedding.
The weather was good then!!!

The hat really belongs to my lovely dad but for some strange reason he gave it to me to wear for the photos that were taken outside of the church.
I should have asked the scary men from Finland if I could borrow their facemask! but I didn't want to wear it incase everyone decided that it suited me.

Marian - If you have the time, take a look at Chris De Burgh's website.
He has updated this now and he can sell not only his new material but also his back catalogue as well.

Lena and Harry - I think that we did see the sun for about 5 seconds yesterday! I must have blinked and missed it again.
It's interesting what you say about Katrina and the Waves being popular in Germany.

Before Tony Christie made a BIG come back last year, he too was very successful in Germany for about 15 years.
My Dad would buy his music through his German manager as his stuff wasn't available here in the UK.

There was a show on our local radio station last year called, "Where are they now." Listeners were asked to write in with artists that they would like the presenter to trace for them.
Well, they did manage to track down the Brotherhood of Man and believe it or not, they are still together and VERY popular in Germany!

It's strange isn't it that some artists are popular here one minute and then they are not. I do believe that if they are lucky, they will make a come back but in the meantime they will go where the work is I guess.

Best Wishes,

Hilary :D

Hello Hilary, Lena and Harry and everyone. That was a good informative post above, from you Hilary. We wouldn't ask you to wear a facemask now Hilary, now we know what you look like, as it would spoil your pleasant looks.
By the way the sun was out today, but it was cool went it dissapeared behind the cloud's.

Hi Hilary, and everyone---funny that you should mention Brotherhood of Man---about 5/6 years ago, we were on holiday in Weymouth in a hotel/holiday camp---and several nights during the entertainment was a singer who was just excellent--she told us later that she was from the group "Brotherhood of Man" -[the dark haired one]- I was able to recognise her then, even though she was older-she also said that they were very proud of their Eurovision Entry record, which was --I think---having the highest number of votes for a winner. Or something similar.

Thank you Robert--I thought it was about time---took ages to sort out a halfway decent photo---took even longer to get the nerve to send it in.
