DOROTHY SQUIRES

Post by john » Fri Jan 19, 2007 10:44 pm

Does anyone else here on the forum like Dorothy Squires? I started listening to her a few years ago when her LIVE AT THE PALLADIUM 1971 CD was re released. I lover her classics like SAY IT WITH FLOWERS, THE GYPSY, A TREE IN THE MEADOW and MOTHERS DAY, and she did great versions of TILL and FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE. I believe she was a fabulous entertainer, though probably not the best singer in the world, her live albums are really enjoyable to listen to.

We do like Dorothy Squires John, we've got her Palladium album and a few others plus CDs.
She is a huge favourite with Eric Hall. He dedicated Two hours of songs and requests on his Sunday show for her about a month ago.
By The way this Sunday, Frankie Vaughan's wife Stella will be guesting on Eric's show.
Frankie Vaughan, one of the nicest people in show business.

Yes I enjoy Dorothy Squires. My mum had a great vinyl collection, except I do not have a turntable at present. It's been a few years since I have listened to her.

Heh heh heh .. thankyou John. I suppose it's each to their own, and I have wide and varying tastes, though I was influenced a great deal by the music my mother would play as we grew up, this included Dorothy Squires.

I wish someone would release a DVD of Dorothy Squires in concert. From her dramatic songs, she must have been a most dynamic performer.
Sad how she spent her last days broke and broken but at least a loyal fan offered accomodation.
She loved Roger Moore till the end, didn't she?

Dorothy Squires was the star performer when she met Roger Moore who was a male model, and there's no doubt that he had what it took to be one.
You are quite right Terence, she was devastated when they split up and the heartbreak showed through with several of her songs. in particular one that she wrote herself .... "When You Lose The One You Love"
She also wrote "Say It With Flowers."
She was quite a feisty character and often making headlines in the press, swore like a trooper, but was adored by millions for being this great performer.
