Hi Marian, we also like Mel Torme, but we have read stories of how he
blamed his then Mother-in-Law Thora Hird of being the cause of his marriage break up to her daughter Janette Scott.
We remember Janette such a very attractive girl, still is attractive even now.
Harry met Thora when he took her home in the taxi from the studio to her mews flat where she lived independently alone until she finally needed extra care.
He said what a dear, sweet lady and that's how the majority of us felt about her. And a superb and brilliant actress too.

Once again Matt Monro was mentioned on Popmaster ... this time on Monday, 4th of June 2007. Not in the actual quiz, but when Ken Bruce asked the second contestant to name her favourite artists, the first she mentioned was Matt Monro! I was listening to Radio 2 that morning when I was in London, but during Popmaster I was on one last run to Waitrose to get poppyseed rolls and a Jaffa white grapefruit for the airport. (We don't have such delicious foods in the US, nor do we have any stores like Waitrose.  ) So I heard Popmaster while "listening again" to Ken Bruce when I returned to Washington. I was very happy that she mentioned Matt Monro and she won the quiz that day!

Speaking of Radio 2, coming back from a golf driving range tonight, me and my mate were treated to 'Born Free' played on 'Friday Night Is Music Night'.
At 8.30pm, just after 'Born Free', a concert of Elgar music began.
Paul, you'd of loved it.

Elgar on Friday Night Is Music Night

Post by paul jh » Fri Jun 08, 2007 10:14 pm

:) Thanks Gray and Robert for telling me about the all Elgar Friday Night Is Music Night. I was so hoping that last week's programme would have been all Elgar. After all it was the day before his birthday. I got back to my hotel room at around 7:15 and had to sit through an awful interview and music with the arrogant Patti Smith, some no talent American singer.

So FNIMN comes on at 7:30 with Marc Almond, the singer from Soft Cell. I believe that is his name. He gave a fine programme, but there was absolutely no Elgar or classical music played. So I'm sitting with my tea frustrated because I'm worried Radio 2 is trying to change the format of FNIMN and remove all classical music. :x

I just looked at the programme for tonight's all Elgar FNIMN. It looks wonderful! It was at St Luke's. I'll listen to it sometime next week. Right now I'm busy listening to this week's Ken Bruce shows which features the Tiny Dancers' new album. And I have several Radio 3 Elgar programmes to listen to before they expire. Where would I be without the BBC? It's definitely worth the license fee I pay!

The FNIMN is not the concert I saw last week-end, Robert. My concerts were held at Royal Albert Hall and Barbican. But if I had known about this St Luke's concert I would have been there. :)

On the Weakest Link this evening Anne Robinson asked a contestant to name the song that Matt Monro sang from the 1966 movie of the same name about a lioness.
He answered... Elsa. i  it was probably on the tip of his tongue.
