Music Before and After Game

Post by paul jh » Fri Jun 08, 2007 4:37 pm

A long-running US TV quiz show called Jeopardy often features a category called Before and After, where the last word of the first part of the answer is the same as the first word of the second part of the example. Confused? :? I find they are really tricky and can never answer them. But I thought we could have a new game called Music Before and After. The two parts of the answer must be about music; they can be a song title, an artist's name, or a classical work, but it has to be music and the last word of the first part must be the same as the first word of the second part.

(The hardest thing may be coming up with the clues! The clues don't necessarily have to be about music, so we can expect Eastenders references from Marian of Kent! :) )

An example may help clarify this new game.

Here's the clue:

Lena and Harry and John's "other favourite singer" told Paul Simon to address him by his full name.

The answer would be:

You can call me Al Martino.

Explanation:

"You Can Call Me Al" is a song by Paul Simon. We all know that Al Martino is Lena and Harry and John's favourite singer (in addition to Matt Monro of course).

Here's an easy one to get you started. And I'll even give you a bonus clue: it includes a Matt Monro song.

Mika just arrived back to the UK after a holiday in Novgorod with his sweetheart.

Well Jeff---I am still struggling with this one--I do not ever remember seeing this game.

I am guessing it could be to do with "Grace Kelly" and "From Russia with Love"--but I cannot get them to join together. I am pretty sure that "From Russia with Love " is correct so it must be "Grace Kelly" that is wrong.

Could it be "From Russia with Love" and "Love today". ??

HI Jeff---the more I think about it, the more I think that I have the right answer. And as I was just out walking the dogs, and had an inspiration, I want to get this one in before I forget.

"Could this be the start of learning a Latin American Dance"

I think it is quite easy---but then I would, wouldn't I

As it is still a new quiz I will also give a clue---nothing to do with Eastenders, or Matt Monro. And the answer consists of 2 very well known song titles.

Sorry, I'm not thinking straight (didn't read the rules clearly). Might it be something like "Let's Face the Music and Begin the Beguine"? Then again maybe not.

Hi Jon---well done --you are half way there---don't forget that the last word of one, and first word of the other have to be the same.

You are definately on the right lines.

Don't know if there's a song called "You're the one to Blame"?? I was thinking of this and "Blame it on the Bosanova" but it can't be right, it has nothing to do with the start of something.
I'd better look more carefully at Jon's answer..

That was a good try Marian--again the right lines.

Jon had it half right with "Begin the Beguine"--and the other song is very well known too.

So you need a song starting with "Beguine" !!! or a song ending in Begin.

This is something you might say if you are trying to learn something new and complicated-----like this quiz for instance !!!

Marian - You were correct. The answer to my clue was:

From Russia With Love Today

I really liked your Where Do I Begin The Beguine. Excellent!

Good luck with the game :) ... I have to be away from the forum for a week or so again --- busy working on multiple projects with presentations later this week. :x

Still trying to think of one; very busy at work. In the meantime thought I'd mention I went to see the film "Zodiac" the other day - about a serial killer in 60s America - and it features a recording of Johnny Mathis singing "It's Not For Me to Say" in one scene; also on the CD soundtrack of the film, out now.
