Barbra's latest CD
Hi Marian
Have you noticed that her voice is deeper and she has lost some of her upper register?
The highlight of this release will be Unusual Way which she has not sung before. Do you like this song Marian?
Purists have complained about Il Divo being too loud when they back her in Somewhere. What is your opinion Marian?
The version of Cockeyed Optimist has been edited for this release. It was much longer when she performed it live. Barbra likes to redub and edit her recordings......even her live ones.......which makes you wonder whether the title "Live In Concert" is appropriate or "Edited/Remixed In The Studio"!!

I will be listening to the second half of Barbra in concert tonight.
And yes Terence, her voice does sound a little different. I think I must have dropped off to sleep half way through last night, but I am so looking forward to hearing her sing "A cockeyed optimist" as I am pretty sure she has never sung or recorded this song before. Maybe the long version will be on the dvd. I love the version by Johnny Mathis, so will be intereted to hear what Barbra makes of it.

We also have Marian to thank for the Matt n'Mel CD.
We have some fantastic live tracks of Mel Torme recorded with the great pianist George Shearing, who spent a lot of time in America. On one of these tracks Mel talks of how he loves England and the people, but that's omitting the Ten years that he was married to an English woman.

Here is an example of someone whose voice hasn't changed:
Dame Shirley Bassey
Ken Bruce is playing Get The Party Started quite often. He loves it. I think she sounds just like the '60s. Her recording of the song is definitely better than the original; the ending is spectacular. I predict a top 5 placement for the album when it's released soon. Let's hope she doesn't release her album through Pret A Manger or Caffe Nero, as Sir Paul did with his latest album sold in that American coffee shop
that sells the overpriced burnt coffee; he barely made the top 5. He's behind the likes of The Twang and Biffy Clyro ... shameful
. Had he released through the regular music shop he would have gotten to #2; I doubt he could have passed Max Monro's favourite artist Rihanna, currently at #1 on both the singles and album charts.
Also, I'm not sure Matt Monro's voice got deeper. He became more experienced and lived more. So you hear every drop of emotion in every single note.
What am I listening to now? Big surprise: Alan Titchmarsh's Melodies For You for the second time this week. What a wonderful mix of music! I was thrilled to hear Desert Song. I played a two piano version years ago with my teacher; I still play the song regularly, because people need to hear this enchanting melody. And it's a favourite at sing-alongs, believe it or not! I hope Marian from Kent listened as Alan said Carousel has the best music of any Rodgers & Hammerstein musical. I think I'm with Robert on South Pacific.
Now he's playing the theme from Hadleigh. Was it a TV show set in the Yorkshire Dales? It is a cool theme; almost as exciting as my favourite: Route 66 by Nelson Riddle.

That track of Mel, where he talks about his ten years married to an Englishwoman was "A Nightingale sang in Berkeley Square".
I have to admit that I always thought that Mel Torme and Janette Scott were an unexpected couple !!
I very rarely listen to Alan Titchmarsh---it is sometimes quite difficult to fit every thing in.

Yes we tend to agree Marian, unexpected couple perhaps, but in spite of Mel's gripes it lasted Ten years.
He was perfect no doubt.
Alan Titchmarsh always comes up with a surprise or Two on his programme like last Sunday Flanagan and Allen's..... "Down Forget-me-not Lane" but that's what makes it enjoyable, and it is generally familiar light classical pieces that he plays.
