Thanks L&H, but David doesn't seem to go that far back in time nowadays on his show. But he did play Vera Lynn tonight, as Rusell Davies did earlier 8)

Perhaps you'll have more success, Robert, if you suggest a Frances Langford song as part of the "common denominator". Pick a FL song that has a connection with Sinatra and/or Streisand, and he just might play it---if it's in his collection!

I think he would play Frances Langford; she was still performing in the past 10 years. Some of the music he's playing tonight certainly sounds dated (e.g., Sometimes I'm Happy, Carriage and Pair).

But Matt Monro is timeless. Great to hear Come Back To Me open the programme. I didn't know it was from On A Clear Day You Can See Forever.

Yes we heard it Robert, so that's Three of Matt's songs played today, on Eric Hall's show and Elaine Page.
And if you were listening to Eric Hall today a lady who called in said that on a visit to America many years ago she saw Harry James band leader and trumpeter, and Frances Langford.
And last but not least Eric played Al Martino's "I Have But One Heart"

David seems to be playing a lot of Matt lately---rightfully so !!

That must surely be one of the best "The Shadow of your Smile"---complete with opening verse----just pure magic !!!!

I just heard four minutes of loveliness: Matt Monro's The Shadow Of Your Smile. Every note, every word is beautiful. I love his "wistful" and how he changed the words and melody on "and you will see". You can hear joy when he sings the word "joy". No one can do this like Matt Monro.

I was thinking I might have to take The Shadow Of Your Smile out of my top 10 Matt Monro songs, to make room for something from The Rare Monro. There's just too many songs for my top 10! I already have to expand my list from 75 to 100 because of The Rare Monro!

I have really enjoyed this Sunday's David Jacobs Collection. I've always loved Nelson Riddle instrumental arrangement of Younger Than Springtime. And the Alma Cogan song was nice. And I had forgotten how much I enjoy Doris Day's Fly Me To The Moon. They don't write songs like that anymore. :) :(

A very young sounding Matt -probably from the Decca days- was played by David tonight singing "That Old Feeling" - David also rather surprisingly played a song by 60's hearthrob Mark Wynter too

Earlier, in case anyone thought I had missed it, Russell Davies finished his show by playing a Frances Langford song 8) 8)

We missed all the usual weekend programmes Robert so are catching up on the Listen Again.
We always liked Mark Wynter, he was a regular on television in the Sixties. A good singer and good looking too.

Robert, The recording of Matt's "That Old Feeling " that David played was from the 1957 album "Blue and Sentimental "
Also on the "Matt n'Mel "album. David mentioned again his friendship with Vic Damone who was married to Diahann Caroll. :lol

Funnily enough, as I was listening to it on my computer, I was thinking of you !!

I was imagining you doing cartwheels or handstands--or just a jig
