MONICA MANCINI

Post by mariana44 » Tue Jul 06, 2010 10:26 am

I do not know how many of you know Monica Mancini--the very talented singer-daughter of Henry Mancini--I have several of her cds---she has a new cd out, and was on Breakfast Time this morning--a concert due on Friday on Radio 2 at 8.00--worth a listen.

We haven't any of her music Marian, but saw her on Breakfast Time, and she is quite good,
We'll try and listen in on Friday. :)

I did listen to this-I only recorded half of it, as I thought it weas just on for an hour.
I think Mark's comment of "dreadful" was harsh--I was not so keen on her singing the first few "pop" type songs. like "God only knows"--and much preferred later, when she sang "But not for me"--I think that is more her type of song-plus I have a cd where she sings Henry Mancini songs, which is more her style too.

Shouldn't good singers be able to sing all types of songs ......... but I know what you mean Marian, regarding certain songs suiting certain performers :)

Yes Robert--logically they should---but there is no doubt that some songs do not sound right, when sung be one singer, but can sound perfect when sung by someone else.

I agree with Mark that the first half was pretty terrible. I think she was nervous, because she kept stumbling over words during her talks.

But as Marian said, she was better singing her father's songs. But why must these singers and arrangers turn every song into a Crall-esque snoozefest. Days of Wine and Roses was so slow and quite boring. Why can't she sing any of her father's original arrangements?

I liked Sharleen Spiteri the best in this programme. She is a true original.

I have her CD, the one in which she sings Cinema Paradiso.
I was impressed.
