Listening to the Radio 2 shows tonight Russell Davies paying tribute to George Melly and to George Gershwin, who passed away 70 years ago. But also playing the CD the best of.....................................JY.............................Jimmy Young he was a good DJ though TTFN

Always used to listen to Jimmy Young's morning show while bathing my babies, thirty odd years ago!!
Jimmy Young was "a must" in those days every weekday morning.

Ah - the Jimmy Young show - my mum used to listen to it as she did her housework, and what a fantastic show it was, with all sorts of experts popping up and phone ins. The Jeremy Vine show is a worthy successor but it just don't have the warmth of JY - or maybe its because I'm older and all nostalgic!

I must admit I tend to have TV on in the background on days off, and a tendency to waste the day on the PC - either surfing the net or playing my 'Flight Sim' game - I'm a repressed airline pilot at heart

Yes poor old Jimmy Young, was un-ceremoniously given the push. In spite of no one, since his departure coming anywhere near to having the warmth and charisma that he had. His crime was that he reached the ripe old age of Eighty.
Apart from being a very good singer, we missed his choice of music, his regular recipe slot with Raymondo, ( who incidently was last seen working in a chip shop in Leeds ) but perhaps most of all his regular morning banter with Terry Wogan.

Yes, JY was certainly great company on the radio for all those years.
I liked his singing too, especially remember "Unchained Melody" and
"The Man From Laramie."
Also remember Raymondo, and the between prog chats with Terry. Nothing like them these days.
It was a real shame he got the push as he did.

Been listening to Eric Sykes and Hattie Jacques today on a cd called "Things", from an original comedy lp from 1962, a bit different to what I usually listen to, but very funny and enjoyable.

Listening again to Jimmy Young at the moment....................his voice and the CD are growing on me really like "Eternally"

Going back a bit:

Jon - Editors and The Enemy are two different groups. The Enemy are currently at #1 on the UK album chart and Editors were #1 a few weeks ago. I think The Enemy's Had Enough is one of the top tracks of 2007, as is Editors' Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors. Both are great rock songs. The Enemy are being compared to Oasis.

I just listened to Glynnis John's recording of Send In The Clowns on Sarah Kennedy's programme this morning. What a interesting rendition. I had never heard it before. Next on the listening agenda is Alan Titchmarsh's Melodies For You.

I have never heard Glynis Johns sing "Send in the Clowns" or anything else for that matter--but being familiar with her speaking voice, I can imagine how different it would be.

Although now I think about it, she did sing a little on Mary Poppins--didn't she ?????
