Julie Andrews

Post by Marian » Tue Jul 17, 2007 12:33 pm

To commemorate her 69th birthday on October 1, actress & vocalist, Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan's Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP. One of the musical numbers she performed was "My Favorite Things" from the legendary movie, "Sound Of Music." Here are the lyrics she used: Remember to sing the lyrics as you scroll down!!!!

Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Cadillacs and cataracts, and hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favorite things.

When the pipes leak,
When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favorite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Back pains, confused brains, and no need for sinnin',
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin',
And we won't mention our short shrunken frames,
When we remember our favorite things.

When the joints ache,
When the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad.

(Ms. Andrews received a standing ovation from the crowd that lasted over four minutes and repeated encores.)

Thought you might all appreciate Julie's sense of humour!!!

Oh - too many to mention Marian  I have served a variety of celebs in the past including Wincy Willis and Julia Mckenzie ! celeb we have served recently was Richard Fairbrass from 'Right said Fred' (90s pop combo  ) - oh and Orland Bloom  And we even have some of the younger pop stars in - Lilly Allen, Miss Dynamitee (apparently - I wouldn't know her if I fell over her!) and Will Young.

None of them were buying heat pads though!

I thought Ms Andrews couldn't sing anymore becuase of the medical problems? She is writing childrens books now I believe

Maybe it was a while ago then Mike, but I can't think she'd be much older than that now. How about Miriam Margolees??? She's old enough. I think you sold her some white goods once. Gotta go now, going to see Bruce Willis with my son!!

That was some poem Marian, and yes One or Two things or even Three are reminders, but what can you expect when you get to 50.
Harry's latest encounter was yesterday with comedian Frank Carson. Friend of the late Bernard Manning.
He had to shout to him...... You gotta get in the rank Frank.
Frank nearly fell over laughing.

That's really special when you can make a comedian laugh!! Great stuff Harry

My apologies to Miriam M. if I spelt her name wrongly, I remember her saying on tv once how it was pronounced, so that was how I wrote it!!
She's not been in for any other hot stuff then Mike???

What a fantastic career. I remember listening to Julie Andrews in a weekly radio shows in the late Forties with her parents Barbara, and Ted Andrews whom her mother met and married in 1939. Julie was about Twelve years old and had a beautiful voice then.

Her parents had their own radio show Ted and Barbara Andrews and their daughter Julie,.... but Julie herself starred in Educating Archie later in 1950.

I thought Julie Andrews had lost her voice a few years back and couldn't sing any more. Or has she had it sorted?
