VERY LAST OF THE SUMMER WINE

Post by mariana44 » Mon Aug 30, 2010 11:31 am

I have not watched this programme for ages, but for nastalgic reasons, I decided to watch the last one.

Quite honestly, it was not very funny, I did not know half the characters, I did not understand what it was about--I think someone was getting married, but I had no idea who.

However, it took me back many years , when George and I watched it, and he laughed so much , he fell off the settee--many times !!

This was in the days of Compo--[aka Bill Owen], and I think that when Bill Owen died in real life, and Compo in the show --with one of the best and most moving send-offs that I can ever remember--
that was the time to pull the plug on the show.

All their efforts of bringing in various other people just have not worked.

I would love to see it from the very beginning, so many characters that are no longer with us.

I haven't watched it since Thora Hird died, I always liked her character of Edie. It used to be good years ago, but like you say Marian, once original characters disappear it isn't the same. It's done well though to keep going all this time.

It's that fatal time of the evening after dinner Marian, although I clocked up earler this evening and woke up just as the Eggheads were defeated, with the visiting team winning 27 Grand :D :D

Oh--I usually watch Eggheads at the time, but due to a hectic and stressful day, I did not get chance to see it yet---I shall enjoy watching them get beaten , tomorrow.
