Prayers for John Higton

Post by Michele Monro » Tue Aug 31, 2010 9:35 pm

I'm sure all our members will want to join me in saying how sorry we are to hear that John Higton lost his father this afternoon. He had unfortunately been ill for some time but that doesn't make these times any easier to bear and I'm sure it will give John and his friend Lee some comfort to know that they are in our thoughts.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die.

As you know John, my thoughts are with you and Lee at this sad time for you.

The poem quoted above was one of George;s favourites, and I had some of the words engraved onto a brass plaque, that is in a plant by the front door, so I can see it every time I go in or out.

Those words are a beautiful way of remembering a lost loved one.

We heard this sad news of Johns Dad from Lee this afternoon and have just spoken to John.
These past months have been very stressful and worrying for them both, but John has been a wonderful caring son and our thoughts and condolences are with them both.

You know we are thinking of you John, and Lee too, at this sad and difficult time.
I'm sure you will be a great comfort and support to one another.
I read the beautiful words Michele has written at Peter's Dad's funeral.

So sorry to hear the sad news about your dad.

You and Lee are in our thoughts and we think the words that Michele has written are a very good expression of what we feel at such sad times.

I would just like to thank you for your lovely poem Michele, and also thank you all all Robert, Marian, Lena, Harry, Marian, Peter, Maureen, Harry, Sandra and John for all your kind words. As some of you know it has been a difficult few months for us all, my Dad has been so ill, especially the last 4 weeks. He is at peace now and back with my beloved Mum again and can take some comfort it that. I couldn't have done it without Lee, he has supported us throughout the last 10 years and has just been terrific. I thank also all the wonderful members of the forum all who have become such lovely friends.

I'd just like to thank all of you once again for your kind messages of support, and to those who sent the lovely cards and flowers.
My Dad's funeral service was yesterday, and was truly beautiful. The vicar who performed the service has been wonderful, in fact he is our neighbour, but his ehlp over the past few weeks has been overwhelming. We chose 3 songs throughout the service, "Ave Maria", by Perry Como, "Thankyou For The Years" by Shirlry Bassey (who was one of my Dads favourites female singers) and of course "Softly As I Leave You" coming out. The weather was perfect as well, and the sun beamed out over the graveside as he was laid to rest alongside my Mum.
