...wow, Amanda (my Mrs) has just been reading about his marriage to Ava Gardner in a biography of the actress.

I wonder if we can get a baby sitter that night....

Not being sarcastic here, but do Mickey Rooney and Ava Gardner seem an ideal couple together ?? Not to me, they don't :wink: :roll:

No Robert, you are quite right.
According to the book I'm reading, Mickey Rooney was infatuated by Ava after their first meeting.
They were both very young, though Mickey Rooney was the biggest box office draw in the world, whereas Ava was just starting out.
Mickey asked Ava to marry him 100's of times, finally after MGM decided it would be good for Ava's career to be seen with Mickey, she said "yes" :)
Unfortunately the marriage wasn't so good, with Mickey Rooney wanting to play golf with his buddies all the time whilst Ava sat at home waiting for him to return.

When did York get an Opera House!? Know where the theatre Royal is but never realised there was an Opera House there too!

Wow - Mickey Rooney still peforming - what a trooper! 'Strike up the band' is one of my fave musicals

We are booked to see Mickey Rooney at the Swan Theatre in High Wycombe next month.
It's his second recent tour here. So we take it that the first one was a success.

Mickey Rooney wanted to play golf, when the beautiful and attractive Ava Gardner was waiting for him at home........................silly boy - no wonder the marriage failed................she was far too good for him. He didn't deserve her :wink:

Sorry I have been missing for a while, as I too, like L&H, have had PC problems - ie the "trojan" virus infected my PC. I have been off line since Sunday night :wink: I'm glad to be back :D
