You have a better memory than I thought L&H
I think in early 60's - ballads fared better at Eurovision than up-tempo songs

It was a big surprise to hear Matt singing "Alfie" in the "connection" spot-

However "Alfie" and "A House is not a Home" are my 2 least favourite songs by Bacharach..

What a coincidence! I'm listening to last Friday's ALW special on FNIMN. (I love the BBC!) Did any of you listen to this? I really enjoyed Connie Fisher, especially on The Sound Of Music. Such a lovely, pure voice. I may have to consider getting her album. Do any of you have it?

Earlier I listened to David Jacobs. I'll report that my two favourite Burt Bacharach and Hal David (let's not forget about him...he wrote the lyrics) songs are by Dusty Springfield :) : Wishin' And Hopin' and The Look Of Love. But I also love Promises Promises, Walk On By, This Guy's In Love With You, Casino Royale (no lyrics there!), Close To You, and The Green Grass Starts To Grow. I just saw in wikipedia that Keely Smith recorded One Less Bell To Answer in 1967; I always thought The Fifth Dimension had the original recording. :?: Have any of you heard Keely's version? I didn't care much for Dionne's Warwick's A House Is Not A Home. Matt Monro's Alfie sounded a little different than the one I'm familiar with. It could be the headphones ... I'm not used to hearing the bass line so clearly. :)

Yes, I listed to that show--really lovely--and Connie sounded great--although she sounds very much like Julie Andrews, and is even beginning to look like her, with her very short haircut.

I have heard the cd [thanks to 2 good friends], and it is great--apart from "Shout"-I always pass on that--there is one song in particular that I love called "All the love that I have" which I have never heard before-I am guessing it is from a musical, but I do not know which one. Amazingly it also turned up on Andrea Ross's album, which is also very good.

Yes, I did know about Hal David--it was just quicker to write the one name !!

I also like "Knowing when to leave"--"The windows of the world" "What the world needs now"--but I have never heard "One less bell to answer"-I am pretty sure it is not on any of my Bacharch/David compilation cds
