How Can I get these Matt Monro Songs?

Post by tgsillery » Fri Aug 31, 2007 8:06 pm

Hi, I can't seem to find cd's with the songs "The Music Played" (English version), and "If I Never Sing Another Song". The latter song I know is available on "A Singer's Singer" 4 CD set which is quite pricey and besides I already have most songs on that collection.

Can anyone guide me here? Thanks for your help! :)

Hi there---If you go to the Home page--right click on news, then scroll down, until you come to a box that says "Definitive Track listing".

This section lists every track of Matt Monro, plus the cd's, lp's that it appears on.

"The music played" [english version] is on one of the latest cds "From Matt with love"

And "If I never sing another song" appears on 14 or so different cd's.

The issue may be that few hose CDs listed in the Definite Track Listing as containing If I Never Sing A Love Song are still available for purchase. The only one I could find on HMV's website is The Singer's Singer, which tgsillery find too pricey---even though it's worth every pence for the photos, liner notes, discography, and the four CDs. :) Plus it always seems to be on sale at HMV or Virgin in the UK stores (if tgsillery is ever in the UK). Also the Definitive Track Listing states that If I Never Sing Another Song is on Matt Monro The Collection. But I don't see it listed on the HMV website. I'll check my CD later. Perhaps there are two compilations called The Collection. :?

I have a double cd valled "The Collection " and "If I never sing another song" is not on there. I also have one called "Collection" which again, does not incude that song.

Amazon has a great stock of Matt cd's, some at reasonable prices, plus they post overseas.

It is on the "Complete Heartbreakers" collection, but I think this has been deleted now. :(

Much appreciation for all responses to my inquiry. However I do not see "If I Never Sing Another Song" on either of the following:

"Complete Hearbreakers"
http://cd.ciao.co.uk/Complete_Heartbrea ... ductdetail

and

"The Matt Monro Collection"
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Matt-Monro-The-Ma ... dZViewItem

I tried running the cd code provided by the administrator, in the HMV website but did not get what I was searching for, perhaps I did something incorrectly?

Yes also Matt Monro "The Collection" also does not have this track as stated in this forum. I guess I will convince my sister in Surrey to buy "The Singer's Singer" and bring it here to the states on her next visit. I'd rather not deal with the possible 8-12 weeks customs delay for international shipping on top of the extra shipping rates from Amazon.co.uk.

tgsillery: I believe the adminstrator was referring to the HMV Easy label which released a Matt Monro compilation a few years ago. Sadly, HMV seems to be discontinuing this series :( , so that's why you couldn't find it on their website.

I agree that the best approach is for your sister to get The Singer's Singer on sale at one of the larger HMVs. I don't think the smaller stores will have it in stock.

I've received material in about two weeks from HMV and Recordstore.co.uk, but the shipping charges have become really high.

I have "If I Never Sing Another Song" on "The Best Of Matt Monro," Music For Pleasure/EMI # 7243 8 35610 2 5 from 1995.
Also on "Heartbreakers," but that is just on audio cassette and LP album.
There are new copies of "The Singer's Singer" in the U.S, on ebay "Buy it Now".

I was really surprised to find how rarely "If I Never Sing Another Song" has been issued on CD. I would have thought it was one of Matt's most popular songs. I know I love it.

Yes, I agree--it is one of those songs that is so familiar, you expect it to be on nearly every compilation .
