Matt at the Movies: For All We Know

Post by paul jh » Tue Sep 04, 2007 3:58 pm

I was looking at the track listing for this upcoming release and noticed that "For All We Know" is listed as being from the film "Lovers And Other Strangers". That is incorrect. The Carpenters' song "For All We Know" is from that film and it's very different from the Matt Monro "For All We Know". Wikipedia stated that a Rosemary Clooney recording of the Matt Monro For All We Know was featured in Dan Ireland's 2005 British film Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont.

:?: Is there still time to correct the CD booklet? Since this CD release is all about the movies, I feel it's important to list the correct film.

Also, "Put On A Happy Face" is from the Broadway musical and film Bye Bye Birdie. It may have been included in 13 Conversations about One Thing, but I believe most people would associate it with Bye Bye Birdie.

Well spotted Paul--the 2 tracks called "For all we know" also confuse me---the "Carpenters " song is a nice song, but the song "For all we know" by Matt is just beautiful--and totally different !

Wikipedia lists about 100 artists who have recorded the For All We Know that is not the Carpenters song. But it fails to list the very best: by Matt Monro. :(

Driving around this weekend listening to Matt Monro and thinking "this is one of my very favourites", made me wonder how Robert M can possibly narrow his very favourites to only six. I likely have twenty Matt Monro songs that I absolutely love. I have a clear #1, but I have so other very favourites: For All We Know is one of them. :)

Well spotted Paul, I have to admit to making that mistake, it just goes to show that sometimes the brain is willing but not able!!

I will credit it to being from
Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont (2005)

Originally when we started with the full list of nearly 90 tracks there were several from the film Bye Bye Birdie which is why I credited Put on a Happy Face to 13 Conversations. If it makes you happier I will change it - can I have the year of the film please

I would be much happier if you listed Bye Bye Birdie. The year for this film is 1963. Thank you very much! :D

I played for the show in high school and D i c k Van Dyke performs this song so well in the movie. I noticed that you didn't include A Lot Of Livin (To Do) from Bye Bye Birdie, so there should be only one song from Bye Bye Birdie now.

Paul

Well spotted, mind you, you are the number one authority on 'Bye Bye Birdie' and so I am not suprised this didn't get past you. :)
I was in my local HMV tonight looking at another Ann Margret film (from the 70's) on DVD, wasn't she beautiful?

I too, have at the very least 20 absolutely favourite Matt songs Jeff, but those 6 songs are at the top of the list
"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On" :(

CONCERNING MATT AT THE MOVIES---"PUT ON A HAPPY FACE' WAS ACTUALLY SANG BY MATT (ON TH JUKE BOX) AS THE ACTION WAS GOING ON.
I BOUGHT THE MOVIE BECAUSE I HEARD MATT SANG IN IT.

Apparently, Rosemary Clooney's version of "For All We Know" is played over the closing credits of "Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont."
A 1934 song written by Sam M. Lewis and J. Fred Coots.

Also, looking at the track listing myself, I was wondering why it says NEW beside some tracks like 'Jean' and 'Precious Moments'? These have both been available on cd before.........
