We're Gonna Change The World on Sarah Kennedy this morning

Post by paul jh » Wed Sep 19, 2007 6:45 pm

I am currently listening to this morning's Sarah Kennedy's Dawn Patrol. Usually I check the track listing and skip songs I don't like. But I didn't this morning. Right after the 7:00 am news, while I was typing My Love & Devotion in the Matt Monro A - Z game, I hear the introduction to We're Gonna Change The World. I was so surprised and thought my ears were playing tricks on me, as Matt Monro is rarely played during Mon - Sat daytime hours on Radio 2. Sarah Kennedy said it's been far too long since we've heard this song. I sang along and didn't care what my co-workers thought! Sarah spoke about Matt Monro after the song was finished.

Another Matt Monro magic moment! :) 8) :D

At the end of her programme, Sarah said many people wrote or called to say that they enjoyed the Matt Monro song very much and would like to hear him every day. :)

I heard that too--I was also surprised as I do not remember Sarah playing him before--Sarah mentioned the quotation from Frank Sinatra regarding Matt as "the only Limey who could sing". It sounded really good--bright and cheerful.

I think "Limey" is rhyming slang, but I cannot remember what to--any ideas----Harry and Lena ?????/

Limey was a slang term used for British sailors in the 16 and 17 hundreds. Their diet was so poor that they often developed scurvy, so they were given lemon juice to drink to try to prevent this. Later this was changed to lime juice, which was thought to be more effective. Hence "limeys". It has since become a derogatory term to refer to the British.

That's the answer Marian-I knew I knew it, but just could not remember it-as I said, I thought it might have been rhyming slang.I guess that put me off the correct answer.

Never mind Cockney Rhyming Slang, that is just such a brilliant song! The way it modulates, all over the place and in my opinion one of the finest bass lines ever recorded, with Matt at his best. Get in!!!!!!
PS. Shame about Sarah Kennedy...........
