BEE GEES

Post by Hilary » Thu Sep 20, 2007 10:08 am

Hi All,

As we have mentioned The Beatles and ABBA then I guess we should also talk about the music of the Bee Gees.

I love their earlier stuff, long before the disco music of "Saturday Night Fever" took them and the world over!

My most favourites are "Run to me, How can you mend a broken heart,
First of May, Words" and my all time number one Bee Gees song, "How deep is your love" :D

They also wrote many great songs for other artists too.
I once heard Robin Gibb on a radio show and he said that "Islands in the stream" was written originally for Dolly and the song was a tongue in cheek number. It is a story about........Dolly in the bath! :?

What does everyone else like by the Bee Gees?
Will Harry be bringing his white suit to the fanclub reunion in October!  8)

The Bee Gees are a good group, but not one of my favourites. I especially like Lonely Days, More Than A Woman, and How Deep Is Your Love. I really don't care for Jive Talkin' or You Should Be Dancing.

"Massachussets" was George's favourite Bee Gees song.

I like "More than a woman"---"Love you inside out"---"How deep is your love" --"You win again ".---"Immortality"---amongst others.

I also like Barry Gibb with Cliff--"I cannot give you my love"--and his album with Barbra Streisand "Guilty" is one of my favourite albums--although I was not so keen on "Guilty 2". Not to mention "Heartbreaker " from Dionne Warwick---they have written some great songs, and I think it was a very sad day for music when Maurice died, as there would be no more "Bee Gees". I also have a cd by Andy Gibb, the younger brother who died at a very young age, which is really very nice.

My favourite Bee Gee cd is "Spirits having flown "

We have their video.. One Night Only 1997 their only live concert in that year, and their first US concert in 10 years.when they received inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Achievement awards. Celine Dion was a guest on the show.
Two others that we like Night Fever" and "Tragedy"

I quite like the Bee Gees, though I don't have any of their albums - all the usual stuff like Saturday Night Fever etc. It's interesting that many of you give their ballads as your favourites rather than the disco numbers. Johnny Mathis recorded most of the songs Hilary mentions: "How Deep Is Your Love", "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart" and "Run To Me". However I didn't realise the Bee Gees wrote "First of May" which, as John rightly points out, was recorded by Matt on the "For The Present" album.

I think "Saved By the Bell" was a Robin Gibb solo hit  :)
"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On" :(

Robin Gibb was on "The One Show" tonight. They were discussing "Saturday Night Fever" being the best selling disco album ever.
