Matt Live Recordings
Hi Richard -or any other fans who may be able to answer this for me.
I'm fairly new to Matt collecting, and so the Live recordings are a bit of a mystery to me.
From what I can gather, there are FOUR Concert recordings of Matt's. The Live CDs I have are as follows:
Born Free -2 CD Set
Live In Manilla -October 2010 Digital Release
Matt on TV volumes 1 & 2 -October 2010 Digital Release (Disc 2 seems to be bits from 'Born Free' double CD.)
Matt Monro -The Final Performance (Black cover, digital download)
I know I am missing the album 'Live in Australia' which is the one with the goldy/bluey cover. Also, 'The Heart of A Man' -where do those tracks come from? Are they a live album, or TV shows??
It's very confusing with contradictory writings all over the internet, and different releases! So my question is: WHAT IS WHAT?! Which is which? How many 'Live' recordings (TV or Concert) actually exist?
One more question: The recording of 'Born Free' from 'Stars on Sunday' is on Disc 1 of the October 2010 download release. Is there actual video footage of this??
Thanks!!
Seb.

Re: Matt Live Recordings
Ok, There are actually only a few sets of recordings that are duplcated across a few release.
Earliest is Live in Manila 1966.
This was released with bonus tracks from 1983 Manila concert as "Yesterday" by Night Owl records a couple of years back. The same concert has been released as Live In Manila on itunes but missing a couple of songs. The "Born Free" release contains all of the 1983 Manila recordings that are releaseable (apart from Born Free) plus other live recordings that i'll come to.
We then have Live in Australia 1967 which is the soundtrack to the Australia TV special release on "An Evening with" and "Ultimate Performer" DVD's. CD releases include "Matt Monro Sings", "Born Free" plus "Matt Monro on TV vol 2" and "Live In Australia" on itunes
We then have Live in Manila 83 as mentioned above
and finally Live in Australia 1984 - This has only been released on CD by EMI Gold
The "Matt Monro On TV" itunes downloads are licenced from ITV by Odeon Entertianment and are the soundtracks to the majority of TV shows that appear on "The Ultimate Performer" DVD
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001 ... B001F0PR02
The video footage of Born Free is also on this DVD.
Just to clear a few things up. The early live recordings with Johnnie Spence that appear on "Born Free" are from a radio programme called "Matt's Kind Of Music".
"Heart of the Man" features recordings from early BBC recordinsg - Mostly studio recordings from Saturday Club.
The one release I don't know about is "The Final Performance". Could you please send me a private message telling me where you found this (and a link if possible)
All of the above is covered in greater detail in the Special Edition of Michele's Book as all released live recordings at the time of publication are covered in my session listing.

Re: Matt Live Recordings
Hi Richard,
Many thanks for the quick response and the wealth of information. This has certainly cleared things up for me, so now I can see what I have and what I don't.
The 'Final Performance' is actually -it seems- a real mix up, the title being a mistake on my part as I was away from my CDs and iPod when I wrote the above. It is on Napster under 'Matt Monroe' (with the 'e') and is 'An Evening With Matt Monro -the Sensational Last Performance.' Released through Odeon.
1) As Long as I'm Singing
2) How Do You Do
3) What To Do
4) You're Nobody Til Somebody Loves You
5) Georgy Girl
6) Music Can't Be Wrong
7) A Lot of Living
8 ) Three Coins in a Fountain
9) Bill Bailey
10) Somewhere
11) One More For The Road
Many thanks for pointing me in the direction of the DVD with 'Born Free' on it from SOS. Do you have any knowledge of where this clip comes from (whether it from a private Matt collection or a TV archive,) as I am searching for any of Gracie Fields' performances from Stars on Sunday, which apparently have all been deleted. Finding a surviving clip offers new hope!!
Thanks.
Seb.

Re: Matt Live Recordings
Odd - Odeon seems to be releasing sound tracks from all of it's DVD's - Even the documentary 'Portrait' has a sound track with short snippets on it - Weird! Having released so many products you would at least think they'd spell his name right!
The Stars on Sunday footage (as with all of the ITV footage on that DVD) comes from ITN SOURCE - They have a website with a searchable database - But be warned they sometime list things that no longer actually exist!

Re: Matt Live Recordings
Hi Richard--
I am looking for the song that Matt sings live with the lyrics "Thanks to the Lord for a girl named Emily Jane(or close to that)....
I know I've heard it on one of Matt's CDs or DVDs, but I cannot seem to find it (and "What Is The Title of the Song?"). I tried to ask Lena & Harry with no answer.
Thanks for your infinite knowledge on "All Things Matt"............................Henry

Hi Henry,
You'll find the song in two places.
1. Ultimate Performer DVD - From 'Whittakers World of Music' This is a shared perfromance with other guests where Matt sings one verse.
2. Matt at the BBC - This is on the DVD of the set and is taken from the Morecambe and Wise show.
The song is actually just called 'Thanks' but often labeled 'Thanks (to the lord)'
For all you trivia fans out there it was written by Waylon Jennings, a country singer who is probably most famous for singing the theme from...... The Dukes of Hazzard!!!
Hope that helps!
Richard

Re: Matt Live Recordings
To- Richard
Thanks for the prompt answer on my question....I was surprised to read that Waylon Jennings wrote this song which has a great beat.
The lyrics to "Thanks (to the Lord)" are on the web site- Songs and Lyrics by Waylon Jennings.
I wonder if "Emily Jane" was Waylon's wife or another relative? Waylon sang many songs with Merle Haggard & Willie Nelson. I am playing the "Ultimate Performer" DVD now and seeing all the performers joining in to sing "Thanks", with Matt singing the last chorus. The DVD has no Song List to follow. One Question--When performing on TV, why didn't Matt wear 2-3 inch shoe lifts to compensate for his short height?
The answer may be in Michele"s Book, but I haven't read about it yet! Merci & Ciao, Henry

Re: Matt Live Recordings
I can't really answer that question Henry - I'll ask Michele, but I guess his lack of height didn't bother him much. I do recall that on Whittaker's that most of the other guests were pretty tall which exagerates things!

Re: Matt Live Recordings
I've spoken to Michele and the answer to this question is:-
He did!!! But there is only so much lifts can do!
There is also a small mention in the book about this when he signed the Decca contract.
