I Love You Because

Post by paul jh » Fri Oct 12, 2007 11:07 pm

I had no idea that Matt Monro recorded this song until it came on my goodie bag CD last night at midnight. A google search revealed that Jim Reeves recorded it. Is that the very famous version with the prevalent background vocals? It has such a distinctive style. I always thought it was by a vocal group. Does anyone know more about this song and the most famous recording?

I would say that the version by Jim Reeves is the best known , and most popular one in the Uk.

Al Martino also had a big hit with this in the U.S.

It could be the Al Martino version I've been hearing in my ears ever since I heard it on the goodie bag CD. It just doesn't sound like Jim Reeves to me, but it could be.

Thanks for the information, Marian and John.

I think Jim Reeves' gorgeous version of I Love You Because reached #5 on the UK chart in the early part of '64.

Al Martino's recording of "I Love You Because " was teamed up with arranger and conductor Belford Hendricks.
It topped the Easy Listening charts and reached No 3 on Billboards Hot 100 in 1963.
