THE LAST FAREWELL

Post by Sandra » Sun Sep 19, 2010 5:52 pm

Listening to some old cassettes yesterday I came across one that years ago I had 'compiled' myself.
I had forgotten what a beautiful track 'The Last Farewell' was sung so powerfully by Matt on the album 'I f I Never Sing Another Song'.
I was hoping that we might see it on a new CD at some point.
Or is someone going to tell me that it is already and I have missed it!

Yes, it has never been released on a Matt only CD but we understand that it's on a CD called The Very Best of Perry Como and Matt Monro.

According to our list there are only 13 songs not released on CD although this could be a bit out of date and let's hope it may be possible that they will be on sometime in the future.

I had not realised that Matt had sung "The Last farewell"---I would love to hear it--lets hope it pops up on a cd soon.

They will all make it eventually.

The Perry Como/Matt Monro album is an odd one as one artist was RCA the other EMI - this was certainly not a UK album - It may have been a "grey area" european disc (J&B Records apparently). In anycase it's certainly not available anymore.

Yes, it is an excellent version of the song and Matt sings it beautifully. :)

How interesting that Matt sings this.

Can somebody please tell me which LP it is on, as this is one of my favourite songs -my favourite version being a very emotional performance from Max Bygraves in one of his radio specials from the mid 1990s.

I'd love to get a copy of Matt singing this, so anybody who knows which LP it is, please let me know! :)

It was originally released on the Album "If I Never Sing Another Song" in 1979

I have the Perry Como/Matt Monro CD which I purchased in 1994 at a Garage Sale. The info on the label states:
"Distributed by J & B Records, 39 Whiting St, Artarmon, North South Wales, Australia" ...
You can look the company up on "Google" which has their catalog, but the above CD has been deleted.

So I presume it is possible to get The Last Farewell on CD if you can find a copy of the Perry Como/Matt CD, but of course it won't have been remastered.
Maybe Richard will work his magic on it one day :D

Well I have a very good friend who has a job much similar to Richard's but with Gilbert and Sullivan recordings, so if I can even find a scratch LP copy it will suffice for the time being!

Thanks for all the help everyone, and if anyone comes across this CD or LP anywhere (or has a spare copy, or even LEND it me just for this track) then please let me know.

I know Richard says it will be released eventually, but this song holds special meaning to me, and I'd love a copy of Matt's version as soon as I can get one! :)
