Post by Lena & Harry Smith » Thu Oct 18, 2007 8:27 pm

The beautiful Actress Deborah Kerr died today at the age of 86.
She played some wonderful roles, and particularly remembered for her starring role as Anna in the Musical .."THE KING AND I".with Yul Brynner, and who could forget the love scene on the beach with Burt Lancaster in the film "FROM HERE TO ETERNITY."

She was also in that lovely film "An affair to remember"---meeting on top of the Empire State Building-a real weepie....

I remember her from the film "The Chalk Garden" with Edith Evans and Hayley Mills and later on in "A Woman Of Substance".

I think the first film that I remember seeing her in was "Love On The Dole", a great movie.
Another was " Hatters Castle " with Robert Newton

Deborah Kerr is one of my mums favourite actresss, especially in The King & I.
Does anyone remember a film called The Innocents?
Now that is scarey!
Cracking British picture.

I have seen Love On The Dole, if I remember correctly, it was extremely controversial in it's time.

Yes, very sad news about her passing.

Deborah Kerr was nicknamed the "English Rose" but was in fact born in Scotland  RIP :(

I thought she'd died years ago (but then I thought Burl Ives died 20 years before he actually did too). I wonder: was it actually her singing in "The King and I"? Or was her voice dubbed. I know a singer called Marnie Nixon sang the part of Eliza Doolittle in "My Fair Lady" to Audrey Hepburn's lip-synching. And a classical mezzo-soprano Marilyn Horne sang Dorothy Dandridge's part in the film "Carmen Jones".

I am almost sure that she was dubbed--by Marnie Nixon---who I also believe dubbed Natalie Wood in West Side Story.

That's correct Marian, she dubbed for several of the stars, but I could almost imagine Deborah Kerr herself singing like that in "The King And I."
