Matt Monro sings the Beatles

Post by paul jh » Tue Nov 06, 2007 6:18 pm

Reading those other posts about the Beatles and that many of their songs are now "standards", I'm wondering just how many Beatles songs did Matt Monro record. I can think of:

Yesterday
All My Loving
Here, There, and Everywhere
The Long And Winding Road

I feel I'm forgetting something else. :?: What other Beatles songs did he record or include in his live performances? I love the Matt Monro versions of these songs and wish he would have recorded an entire album of Beatles songs.

I'll get the easy one in first: 'Michele'. :)

I'm tempted to say "Love me do"---but I know it is not the same as the Beatles song.

I really cannot think of another.

I can't think of any more Beatles songs Matt sang, although there was one written by George Harrison, I think, "Isn't It A Pity".

I am surprised Matt did not record Something or Eleanor Rigby.

Perhaps we should list the Beatles song sung by our other favourite artists too. I can start with Johnny Mathis, who recorded:

The Long and Winding Road
We Can Work It Out
Something
Eleanor Rigby
Here There and Everywhere
Michelle
Yesterday.

I have never heard his versions of Michelle and Yesterday, though.
