Yes Robert, It's David playing our Matt again "Time After Time." This must be one of the special favourites on the Matt Monro forum.
We have to count ourselves lucky that we still have the BBC 2 DJ faithfuls who know the difference between good music and not so good music.

Robert, David's programme probably is pre-recorded. Elaine Paige today mentioned on her show that David will be paying a tribute to Robert Goulet next Sunday.

Did your hear David say that the song "If It's the Last Thing I Do" sung on the show by Frank Sinatra, was a new song to him. Did I hear him say that correctly :?: as surely that song is a standard

Big surprise again last night when that familiar beginning to "I'll take romance" came on David Jacobs show last night--just perfect !!

I must admit Robert that the song "If it's the last thing that I do" is a new song to me too---I certainly do not ever remember hearing it before.

I suppose David could be excused for not being familiar with this song. as far as Sinatra's music is concerned. We wouldn't think of The 1956 recorded song "If It's The Last Thing That I Do" as a Sinatra standard, even though Sammy Cahn was without any doubt one of the finest lyricists and musicians ever, and we have a Jack Jones tribute recording of Sammy Cahn naturally discussing Sinatra's songs, and this song wasn't mentioned..
We have the Sinatra Capitol Years containing 20 Albums but minus this song although there is now a Capitol 21 disc box set with this song on.
We do have this recording and live studio recordings.
A few years ago and after Frank's death David broadcast a 13 part weekly series on Sinatra, "The Voice Of The Century" and we have this, so if it wasn't familiar to him it makes sense.
Not to be confused Robert, a song of Sinatra's with a similar meaning " It Never Entered My Mind." could be regarded by many as a standard. :) :)

I definately regard "It never entered my mind" as a standard--although some singers use the line

"I'd sit at Bingo day and night, and never get the numbers right"

and some don't !!

I also love the line--"Uneasy,in my easy chair"---short and sweet!!

Jack sings the "Bingo" line, but I expect you already know that Marian!!
I also like the line "Uneasy in my easy chair". :D :D
Can't say I've heard the Frank Sinatra version, and the earlier song mentioned was new to me too.
Marian
