Terence, we agree Vikki Carr was another great singer and we believe "It Must Be Him" sold over a millionc copies, and she also made some recordings in Spanish.
She appeared at a Royal Command Performance from what we can remember. That was in the Seventies, and also at The London Palladium and The Royal Albert Hall. Very popular female vocalist here as well as all over the world.

Vikki
Vikki Carr actually sent me a Christmas card 2 years ago since my friend runs her fan club in USA. I also received large photos from her autographed specially for me. She's a very nice lady despite her stardom.
Have I shared the story of how I flew to UK one year just to attend a Shirley Bassey concert at Cardiff International Arena? Well that was the year La Bassey opened the arena. On the phone to book my tickets, I commented to the manager that since I was flying all the way from Asia for the concert, I would like a front row seat, otherwise it would not be worth the expense. Word got to Bassey and what do you know? She signed 2 large pics just for me and passed them to her assistant at that time Hilary to give them to me.Despite the stories I hear about her legendary temper, she was kind to me. When I wrote her that Christmas, she again autographed a large pic and sent it to me. Like Vikki, it wasn't just a signature. Both Shirley Bassey & Vikki Carr wrote my name and some best wishes on the pictures. I was on cloud nine for days!

Hi Mark--just looking at Amazon today--an Eydie Gorme cd was selling for £109.50---I am not kidding!!Mark Fox wrote:Sorry,Marian-I agree,it's a 'duff'site.
I've been transferring all my SteveLawrence albums and those I have by Eydie from vinyl to CD -a lot cheaper than the prices some UK outlets charge. I've seen their albums(CDs)at £25! Ridiculous.

The website:-
www.steveandeydie.com has their albums more reasonably priced(in dollars).

Wow - Nancy Wilson - one of my Dads favourite singers! Will have to look into her a bit more I think, as I am sure I liked her voice!
Nice to hear your story Terence, I have met Shirley Bassey at work, and she was quite charming. It was about 20 years ago when I had just started working in London, and she was a pleasure to serve.
Will write more when I get an hour or so, but nice to hear all of your stories, and also your Eydie comments!

20 years ago will be around the time Shirley Bassey recorded I AM WHAT I AM with the London Symphony Orchestra thus securing for herself another signature song for her concerts. Some of the 80s were bad years as her career was in the doldrums after the suicide of her daughter Samantha. She walked out on stage in Australia, opened her mouth and nothing came out. She had not given herself time to grieve. As she once said, she is better at being Shirley Bassey than a mum.

Be prepared hadn't worked that time!

Now had an opportunity to listen to more Eydie, and am loving her more and more! In particular some of her covers of showtunes! 'Johnny One Note' and 'Always true to you in my fashion' are both now on my i-pod as well as 'taking a chance on love' (currently usurped by 'More' as my tip-top fave love song!), 'shooting high', Your getting to be a habit, and 'make it one for my baby'. She certainly belts out her songs, very punchy, but with so much feeling!

All you Eydie Gorme fans check out YouTube (if you haven't already!) there is a fantastic clip of Eydie singing 'Johnny One Note' in a 1959 TV broadcast - absolutely captivating - surely one of the happiest faces in show business - dancing as she sings, even looking as if she is about to break into 'Greased Lightnin' at one moment ! Also stacks of Bobby Darin clip -, a couple of Alma Cogan but sadly not much Matt.
