Post by Lena & Harry Smith » Sun Aug 26, 2007 8:49 pm

Tony award winning, American singer and actress Barbara Cook was guest on Eric Hall's show today.
She will be 80 years young in October and still singing so well today.
She made her Broadway debut in the 1951 musical "Flahooley" appeared in many broadway Musicals, including "Candide" and "The Music Man" with Robert Preston, "Oklahoma" and "Carousel.
A wonderful singer.
We saw her at the Albery Theatre in 1986.
She is appearing with friends for one night only Sunday 2nd of December at the London Coliseum.
The evening is a World Aids Day concert.
Some of the artists appearing with her are Maureen Lipman, Elaine Paige, Ruthie Henshaw, Sian Philips, Nicholas Parsons, and members of The London Gay Mens Chorus.
Tickets on-line.

That sounds a great show---Barbara Cook never seemed to get as much recognition over here as she deserved--one of my versions of Carousel is with Barbara Cook singing as Julie--with Sarah Brightman as Carrie.

I had not realised that she was 80, that's for sure.

I really like Ruthie Henshall also.

Maybe they will record it, as it is for charity. I hope so.

You never know Marian. That would be nice. This is just a one night event, and being a charity event the tickets are quite pricey.
You are right, she perhaps hasn't had the recognition that she deserves
One of our favourite albums is Barbara and Friends. Two or Three songs with John Raitt and One with Barry Manilow. and one of the best known of Barbara's singing with Robert Preston... "Till There Was You."

She sings a great duet with Barry Manilow on his 'Showstoppers' cd called 'Look to the rainbow'. I like it a lot. I think its from the Broadway musical 'Finian's Rainbow', if I remember!

Yu are right on all counts Thomas-lovely version of that song--from an unusual pairing---and indeed from "Finian's Rainbow"
