Hotels in Kensington

Post by paul jh » Fri Apr 08, 2011 11:20 pm

I researched a lot of hotels in the Kensington area of London. I decided to stay at the London Lodge Hotel as it had the best rates and seemed very charming/Victorian; plus it had great reviews in tripadvisor.com. There are seven steps to the entrance, but there are lifts to the guestrooms and breakfast area. Full English breakfast is 5 pounds more, but continental is included in the rate.

Other hotels in the area:

Milestone Hotel (one of the top boutique hotels in the world and very expensive)

Royal Garden Hotel (also expensive)

Copthorne Tara Hotel (seems very close to the venue)

Kensington Close Hotel (also close to the venue, but under renovation)

We usually stay at Premier Inns for Fans Reuniteds. There are locations in Kensington and Earls Court, but they are rather expensive. There's also easyhotel in Kensington, but that is too basic and small for me, and too many rules! And there are several B & Bs in the area.

There is a Holiday Inn and Radisson Edwardian Hotel (I think it's called Bailey's) near the Gloucester Road Tube Station (and a few more hotels too). That's a convenient area, with a great little shopping area with a Waitrose and Garfunkels and the ubiquitous Boots.

I don't have time to provide phone numbers and weblinks, but they are easy to find in any internet search engine.

I am now booked in, but I advise anyone to book asap, because it is surprising how busy these hotels are--especially for single rooms at a good price--at least, it was in the hotel that I am booked in, which is the same one as Paul.

That is bad luck--but it may be worth trying for a cancellation in the next few days--or with another travel agent.

I think that is definately worth a try.

Paul is trying to get something arranged for afterwards--a fish and chip supper maybe, so I know that he [and also me] would love to see a little group interested.

He did the very same thing last time, when we were in Hayes . He remembered the shop from seeing it first time round--found it on the internet, sent a menu through.

But I am not sure how much fish I can eat after that Thai Menu !!!!

Just a little clarification: the informal dinner in Kensington (hopefully fish and chips and mushy peas) will take place on the night before Fans Reunited. So it will be on Tuesday. September 13. All are invited. Soon I'll start a new thread on the pre-dinner and drinks.

Oh Paul-I do not think I will be there on Tuesday night-I shall have to see what I can do.

Silly me-I should have realised that a fish and chip supper after Fans reunited would not be practical--I just did not think--but I am trying to get booked in for Tuesday night too. that would probably make things easier for me too.
