:)
I work with a young lady who smokes and frequents her local pub reguarly, what with all the bad weather we have been having lately, when she fancied a smoke, she would stand outside the CLOSED pub door but out of the rain.
But some council official has seen her and placed a big sticker in the door way, "NO Smoking in this doorway".
Cor blimey, she is furious!!!!!

Hi Gray, now if that young lady was to catch pneumonia by being shoved from that doorway and out in the rain, and others experience the same, couldn't this become an extra burden on the NHS.
Also, even though Harry is a smoker and I'm not I find it unexplainable how cigarette smoking can be banned and yet licencing hours have been extended.
Yes we know. !! The idea was to come in line with other European countries.
Those who thought up this follow my leader idea, didn't have the brains to know that it would simply encourage more drinking and more hours to do it in and cause more trouble, injury and harm than probably any cigarette could ever do.

I have first hand experience of the disastrous consequences of both smoking and drinking--on the whole I find drinking worse as it can affect so many other peoples lives. Unfortunately many drinkers also smoke as well--I am not talking about the odd few pints, or couple of glasses of wine, or 10 a day cigarettes, but very heavy drinking and smoking. Not only does it ruin the life of the person who is smoking and drinking, but also of those around them.

And this is in no way related to the new [or old] licensing hours, as many, many more drink and smoke excessively at home.

That's probably quite true nowadays that many drink and smoke excessively at home but if it's in their own home and if they wish to get legless and kill themselves with smoking, so be it and any problems caused by drink or smoke in that home has to be dealt with. It's in pubs, clubs and bars at turning out time where police and ambulances work overtime to deal with those who can't hold their drink and cause mayhem and sometimes to innocent bystanders.
Fortunately the smokers rarely set light to the building.

It's also the problem drinkers who end up every weekend in casualty or A and E departments of hospitals, and physically and verbally assault the staff who are trying to care for them.

Really nice to have you back in the saddle, as it were, following your "annus horriblis" not sure of the spelling, but you know what I mean!
All best wishes for 2008 to be a much better year for you. :D

Thanks L&H and Marian
Like the hundred score, the two hundred also crept
past me surreptitiously; I think I am enjoying the postings
so much, I am not keeping track of them. My belated
congrats, too, on your prolific achievement, Marian.

Hi Robert
Thanks for your kind words which are reciprocated
multiplied by seventeen. Will you be helping David Davis
keep his numbers buoyant? My thanks to you also
Gray, my friend.
Keith
