SOUNDS OF THE 20TH CENTURY BBC RADIO 2

Post by Lena & Harry Smith » Fri Apr 08, 2011 1:11 pm

A series of programmes celebrating the music and culture of the second half of the 20th century and presented by Jeremy Vine started last night on BBC Radio 2 at 10pm for the year 1951, and will continue each week with each year of the Fifties.
We enjoyed this first programme listening to the events of that year, ..that included the cencus, the Festival of Britain. Tin Pan Alley. radio programmes and all the singers familiar to us. ..about Fifteen in all.
Next week's programme includes.. The death of HM King George V1, London's smog,...(we remember it well. ) the Helsinki Olympics, The movie ..Singing In The Rain and Al Martino's hit song "Here In My Heart " that was the first No 1 in the UKs first official singles chart.
We feel sure that Matt will feature in one of these programmes.
Last nights programme can be heard on the BBC Listen Again programme.
