Hmmm..what would Matt think of today's music?

Post by Eman » Wed Apr 20, 2011 3:27 am

I often wonder what Matt would think of today's music? Would he have liked it or at least some? I'm wondering what he thought of the 70's music, stuff like the Cassidy's, BCR's, James Taylor, Cat Stevens, Jim Croce or what Michele and her brothers listened to as teens. I know rock music wasn't his thing and he didn't have anything against it, but still it would be of interest. I have this picture in my mind that Matt and Mickie were like every parent of that decade and just tolerated their kids music just like my folks but liked some of it. :D Though I know my folks despised The Sex Pistols and The Clash, but tolerated Adam and The Ants except when I dressed liked them...

I am sure that there is some music around that Matt would have loved--and indeed would have loved to sing.

I can imagine him singing Michael Buble's "Just haven't met you yet"--he would sound really good.

Matt liked a lot of the contemporary music of his day. In interviews and during a three part radio show he hosted himself, many names were mentioned of people who's music he enjoyed. Barry Manilow, Gilbert O'Sullivan, Neil Diamond, and Lionel Richie were all mentioned as 'Current' artists he liked.

Not only that but Matt was a big Elvis fan!

So i'm sure there would still be some music he'd enjoy today.

How many songs did Matt record from 70's or 80's musicians ? ....................Neil Diamonds Beautiful Noise is on one of the live CDs, and that's from 1984 :)

I'll have to check my listings.

But One Voice & I write the songs (both associated with Manilow) were regular parts of his live act in the 80's

I could imagine Matt Monro opening his show with Viva la Vida, and doing an intimate yet powerful version of The Scientist.

It has been a while since I have been connected to the forum, and I have missed it, but be assured Matt Monro sings to me every day .. But I just wanted to say Hello to all of you devoted fans.. and to also make a comment as to who I think Matt would have admired .. When you mentionred Niel Diamond Barry Manilow, Lionel Ritchie... Yes those are the voices I think he would have appreciated... None as great as he!! However some of the music today I never hear anyrthing that is memorable and don't even understand the popularity of Lady Gaga !! Anyway nice to read all of your comments and wanted to be ib touch......

Hi Lori and everyone! Been too busy at work and other things, like Dad's 80th and my Brother's 50th both on May 1st. Then last Sunday was Mother's Day here in the US. So belated US Mother's Day to all you Mums on the board. :D

I was so busy with work that I came down with a bad case of laryngitis and was in and out of the office for a couple days. My sister who's a doctor was visiting my folks and gave me antibiotics to help get my old voice back.

Lori, Lady Gaga for what she is is popular because I believe she's just a video type artist, her music is good at the moment, but like everything now won't be heard all the time like past artists. Although I think she has made her mark in the world with her last single "Born This Way". I like her though, but I'm really liking a singer named "Adele". I think maybe Matt would probably listen to her.
