Nice to see you back on the forum Lori and glad you are feeling better Eman.
The taste in music varies, and many of these singers fade or disappear in time,..( we are often pleased to say.) but the vast amount of money they make in a short time enables them to do this I suppose.
Matt chose wisely with his songs, but they did come from artistes who were famous and lasted.
Adele is very very popular just now--doing so well with her 2nd album.
As for Lady Gaga--I read something strange that I read somewhere on the internet--the 3 most recognised women in the world today--The Queen, somone else very famous whose name I have forgotten---and Lady Gaga---personally, if I was sat next to Lady Gaga I would not have a clue !!
We watched Paul O'Grady's show tonight with Celia Imrie, Paddy Mc Guiness and Kathy Burke who each gave us a laugh, and then Lady Gaga appeared OMG Oh and Black Eyed Peas.
Matt would have left the room for a smoke.
A big Hi to all Monrovians everywhere..
I am just recovering from a major bilious attack..Yep..I just heard Rod Stewart singing "The Nearness of You", I kid you not.
I consulted the radio doctor and he prescribed a big CD full of Matt Monro ,and after just a couple of minutes I'm feeling just fine.
Am I out of step with the whole world here , or what??
What is it with these pretenders to the throne, do people tell them they sound like the legends where upon their egos take over?.
I'm rattling on ..
Can one of the learned members of the forum explain something to me.?
"The Heart of the Man" , track 11 ..Ken Jones in his satchmo voice says something near the end of the song that I'm hoping someone can clarify.
He says "What about the PFH?". To which Matt half laughs.
Does anyone know what that reference may be to.?
MM forever..
Greg

Glad to see you back and glad you are feeling better. How handy having a doctor for a sister.
I have to say I don't rate Lady gag personally but totally admire her for her unique branding of herself and in transforming a struggling artist into one of the richest in the world today. Incredible. Dad would have adored Michale Buble and Robbie Williams, Take That - saw them at Wembly last week (awesome). He would have adored Tim Minchin but then that was his sort of humour and the man is a true genius at the piano. Of course the one with incredible staying power is his old mate Tony Bennett and I am so looking forward to seeing him in October when he visits the Palladium.
I am a fan of Rod Stewart and saw him live in concert at the Manchester United Football Ground many years ago with Status Quo also on the bill. I have to confess that I prefer it when he sings Rock 'n' Roll. For me personally the Songbook Albums just don't do it for me.
We have played Heart Of A Man and listened to Track 11 and the only explanation we can come up with for PFH is "Pennies From Heaven".
