Actually Gray, I'm much more excited to see Jamie Cullum's I'm All Over It on Marian's list. Love it ... The piano riffs, drums, lyrics, his vocals. I hope you have The Pursuit album (deluxe version). So many great songs on there: Wheels, Don't Stop the Music, Grace is Gone, Gran Torino (exquisite ...from the film), Just One of Those Things, Not While I'm Around (best arrangement of that song and incredible live). It's his best album yet. I've said it many times before, but one of life's great experiences is to see this man in concert. I can't wait until he comes back to the US.

I knew Marian loved Viva la Vida but didn't know she loved it enough for a desert island. It's a great song, but certainly not my favorite by them. I thought the lyrics were about striving for one's best in life, but I haven't really given it much thought.

I'm surprised we haven't discussed Adele more in the forum. I don't get the hype. Yes, some good songs, but nothing extraordinary. I liked Chasing Pavements until she started performig it live and she changed the melody. I wish she wouldn't do wouldn't do that. We also haven't discussed Rumer, who should be a forum favourite.

A bit disappointed in not seeing Matt's I'll Take Romance and Johnny Mathis's Time After Time, Oh That Feeling, On My Way to You, and I Have Dreamed. You are indelibly linked to those songs, so I'll put them in a little carry-on bag for your trip to the island.

Later I'll comment on the Manchester appearance on the list from Maureen and Harry. Very excited about that too!

I don't think I'll be revising my list. I looked at it and just thought of songs to add (especially more Matt and Robbie) and nothing to take off!

I really love Jamie Cullum-"I'm all over it"---and loved seeing him sing it on Tv--and I did download "Not while i'm around" and --- what was the other song---really well known song--it escapes me just now.
I do not know why I love "Viva la vida"--I just do--my plan is to learn all the lyrics--not easy as they are so unusual. I am not 100% sold on Adele--but "Chasing pavements" is her best , I think--althoiugh I did download "Somene like you"--And I do like Rumer-a voice reminscent of Karen Carpenter---on Tv she sang "What the world needs now"--so I am hoping she may record that, plus a few other covers sometime soon.

Paul--my first original choice will always be my favourites---but these were a close second !! So these are not replacing them---just adding, so I guess I am cheating a little !!!

By the way--does anyone else like The Script ???

Also I will check out Jamie's album---that song I could not think of was "I get a kick out of you"

Rumor has been getting quite a bit of airplay with 'The Goodbye Girl' on radio 2 lately, I really like it (but I do like the film a lot also, as well as Bread, so I guess that helps).

I borrowed Rumer's album (that's not her actual name, is it?) from the library but wasn't that impressed. She sounds like a cross between Dusty Springfield and Karen Carpenter but without the star quality of either. One or two of the songs were vaguely memorable but most weren't. I suspect she'll do a Duffy and disappear failry quickly.

I agree with you Jon about Rumer. However, I do feel that Duffy could have a comeback one day if the material is right.

Marian: I don't like The Script. I can sit through Breakeven, but not The Man Who Can't Be Moved or their latest, For the First Time (or something like that). The guy's voice is okay, I just don't like the songs.

Rumer has quite a pleasant voice but I don't think she is anywhere near as good and clear as Karen Carpenter. I agree she lacks the star quality Jon. I suppose she sings similar songs which is why people keep associating one with the other, but for me Karen was unique.

There is no doubt that Karen Carpenter was a one-off---but Rumer has just a little hint of Karen about her voice-especially on certain notes. I think we need to hear more from her to decide---but I agree , she will never be another Karen.

A :? :?: re you sure about that, Robert? Hilary hasn't been around here for a long time. I know she loved Terry (already forgot his surname) from Radio 2's breakfast show. So perhaps it was Katie Melua, because Terry played her often. It seems that Rumer just appeared on the scene in 2010.

Here is Hilarys last post, from November last year

Hello Everyone, Listening to the WONDERFUL CD by RUMER right now :D If you haven't had a chance to hear Rumer......please do take the time as I think she has one of the best voices I have ever heard apart from Matt and Eva Cassidy. "Seasons of my Soul" is the best CD of 2010.

Hilary's previous post before this one was in December 2008 :!: :!:

Thanks Robert -- I never read that posting. I certainly don't agree that Rumer has one of the three best voices ever.

And I remembered that the Radio 2 morning DJ was Terry Wogan.
