Great Singers

Post by karl » Fri Jul 15, 2011 2:36 pm

Being a newbie I am not sure how to reply to an old post but I came across one that mentioned Jack Jones (it was from around 2006).

I have seen Jack Jones several times over the years and I think his voice is magnificent, I have all his albums but just wish all his brilliant RCA album would be released on cd. I have many favourite albums with his final LP for RCA takes some beating "With One More Look at You" has been played constantly on my stereo over the years!

There was a question raised about him being on tv, I haven't seen anyone of worth singing on tv for the longest time infact I feel sorry for a lot of today's stars as nobody gets a tv show anymore - anyway returning to Mr. Jones over the years I recorded many of his one shows (Night Music etc) and guest apperances and latterly put then on to dvd not realising that I actually had so much footage of him. However before we all had VCR's Jack did a fantastic series of about 4 shows for the BBC I think it was, how great it would be to see them again, anyway before I stop talking about the great JJ you may be interested to know he has a brand new cd recently released of Bergman songs only availble from the States, I think Amazon US has it in stock.

Many years ago I was fortunate enough to see the great Vic Damone in concert with Lena Horne, I never cared for her but seeing her onstage was something else and they both ended the show with a 20 minute Rodgers & Hart medley, I was lucky enough to talk to Vic Damone after the show.

Over the years I have seen some of the all time greats onstage both here and in the States - in London I saw James Stewart in Harvey and in the States I saw Richard Harris in Camelot, Yul Bryner in The King & I and Tom Bosley in Showboat, the latter two were absolutely brilliant.

You have certainly seen some great shows and met great stars Karl. We all like Jack Jones on the forum and Vic Damone is one of my favourites too. Would have loved to have seen him in concert and although of course he is retired now, he did a special one off concert in January of this year. :)

John I wanted to add to my list of singers I have seen over the years but I can't find it, has someone possibly moved it?

Hi Karl, I don't think there is a list as such, people just tend to put a new topic if they want to discuss a particular singer under the "other Favourite artists" section. You can of course start a new topic and list your favourite singers and then the other members will just follow on from there. Hope that helps. :D

Jack Jones is a big favourite on here-and although I have not seen him live, I know Marian has, many times.

We both have the 2 "latest" cds from Jack-did you also get the "singles" cd that was out recently. ?

We all have other favourites, apart from Matt, and they are all in the "Other favourites" as John mentioned-but you can start your own thread, too.

It's at the top of this page Karl. You started the thread off in this section under your heading "great singers". :)

Mariana what is this Singles cd by JAck Jones? I constantly check for anything new on both sides of the Atlantic but I have never heard of this one, cd released from JJ are very few and far between so any information would be much apprciated. The last two I bought fairly recently were a compilation of very early material and also cd compilation of some of his RCA tracks.

Karl-the singles cd is called "This could be the start of something --2009. And I got it from a place called "Jasmine records"--contains 25 tracks--none of which I had heard before-I think it says they were recorded in 1957 with Capitol.

Karl, I have been a keen follower of Jack's career since the early sixties, and have seen him live many many times. I take it you know he is touring here in the U.K. again late October/ early November this year :D

Yes I know he is Mariana infact several of my favourites are touring that month which I think is very inconsiderate of them, don't they know I will be in Australia then?
Like you I have been a JJ fan since the 60's I was a teenager and heard this album in a shop, it was The Romantic Voice Of Jack Jones on Music For Pleasure (MFP)and cost 12/6 - remember them? I loved MFP as they were more affordable to a teenager.
I still have that album and that's why I was so pleased the recent cd included those early tracks, the potential was there even then and paved the way for the greatness still to come.

Hi Karl-just in case you are confused, as some people are--there are 2 Marian's on the Forum---but Marian #1 joined before me and got to keep her own name, soo I had to use a different name---but we both love JJ.
