He's married to wife number six Henry.
I've seen him quite a number of times at the London Palladium and was there when his album Live At The London Palladium was recorded, although some of it was from the Fairfield Hall in Croydon. Peter and I were there too.

Too bad Jack lost some of his vocal range after turning 70. Was he ever a smoker or heavy drinker?
Singers which held up after turning 70 were: Al Martino, Jerry Vale, Don Cornell, and Perry Como
A common thread on the above 4 singers was that they have stayed married to their wives for many years (at least 40!!)
NOTE - Perry Como passed away in 2001, and he and his wife, Rose, celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary in 1998 & 2 weeks later she died.

Henry, don't forget Tony Bennett

Robert, I originally entered Tony B , but removed him only because he's been divorced twice and his marriages lasted less than 20 years....
He married for a third time in June 2007 in New York to a 47 year old woman who he knew for 20 years. Tony was 80 years old at that time.
I could have added Frankie Laine to the list as he was married for 43 years to his wife who passed away in 1993.

It always amazes me that so many famous singers smoke when their voice is their living.

Am I right in saying Jack Jones smoked when he was younger?

Henry, Perry Como passed away in May 2001, I remember because I had just started a new job and the news came on over the radio, it was just days before his 89th birthday. I think it was his wife who passed away just after thier 65th Anniversary in 1998.

I see from the online pic of Perry that he smoked!

Perry always had a quiet charm and seemed a thorough gentleman, much like MM, I also read Perry was devastated when his wife passed away.

Jack smoked yes, around 40 a day, but he's not smoked for years now.

John, I corrected my entry as I got a little twisted on my facts. I also read that Perry Como appeared in his first overseas concert in the U.K. at
the London Palladium in 1974. Has anyone seen Perry in concert when he appeared in England - when and where?

Henry, Perry did a BBCTV special in 1971 as well, I have this on tape somewhere as well as the Royal Variety Show from the Palladium in 1974. However I am sure he had been to the U.K. previous to 1971 because he said it had been far too long since he had been to these shores.

This memory has taken me ages, as I had to cut it down for here--so this is my memories of a perfcet day.

One of my favourite memories is of a magical day from a holiday in New York
One day after breakfast from our favourite Bagel shop , my 3 friends and I went to Battery Park, and caught the ferry to Ellis Island. Although it has now been modernised , it is still very evocative of the days of the first immigrants to USA,. Another ferry took us on to Liberty Island, and we joined the queue to climb inside the Statue of Liberty—-and it is much bigger than it looks. Of course.afterwards we had to hit the Statue of Liberty Gift shop, and all 4 of us came out laden with shopping bags, and sat on the nearest seat with all our shopping. We asked someone to take a photo of us all together, and suddenly, we were surrounded by cameras, zoom lenses, cinecameras—we felt like movie stars—may be it was because of the Statue of Liberty hats we were wearing –who knows !!
The previous day we had been right to the top of the World Trade Centre 110 floors up, and the views of the Twin Towers from top of the Statue of Liberty were spectacular. Never could I have imagined the day would come when they would no longer be there. Looking at my photos now, it is clear to see how vulnerable they were to attack.
It was time to head back to our apartment, change and get a cab to to The Rainbow room, at the Rockefeller Centre-- for cocktails—and we watched twilight fall over Manhattan, and the lights coming on the Empire State Building right in front of our eyes.. However, we could not linger, as we were going to see Les Miserables on Broadway. It was unforgettable.
Just a perfect end to a perfect day.
