Great Deal for Glasses

Post by Michele Monro » Wed Aug 10, 2011 5:58 pm

As you know I was at Vintage last week and there was a stall there called 'INEEDSPEX'. I purchased two frames of my choice and paid for them using my credit card. Once I got home I emailed in my prescription. The frames were delivered today in perfect condition and surprisingly in a hard spectacle case, a rare thing nowadays especially is using Dolland and Aitchinson or Boots. The full price including deliver and VAT was £25.00 each.

It was a fantastic service and I recently had to renew my prescription at a cost of £79.00. Because of the cost I was loathe to buy a second pair but as I am going away shortly I thought it wise to have a second pair in case one got 'lost at sea'.

If you would like to browse their site the go to: www.ineedspex.co.uk

I use a great shop in Dunfermline called Spex In The City, you simply take your prescription in and they do the rest much cheaper than the big boys and yes I got a hard case for them, like you I hate the soft one's no bloody good for protecting your specs!!!

Wow---my sister just paid over £700.00 for 3 pairs of glasses---normal, reading and computer.

And last year I was quoted £350.00-for a pair of normal glasses. !! I eventually got them for just over £200.00.

The trouble is, we both have very complicated prescriptions--I think mine are more complicated than Jill's.

I have just looked at the ineedspex website which is really good but unfortunately like Mariana I have the same problem with my prescription.

You can request your prescription from wherever you got your eyes tested, and they are obligated to give it to you to take wherever you like to have your glasses made up. :)

Yes, Marian, I did know that. But my lenses are so complicated with so many prisms--even the opticians have problems getting it right-and I end up seeing double of everything--one above the other. A very strange sensation !!

It doesn't say anything about complicated prescriptions. I am sure if you emailed them it they would tell you straight away if there would be a problem. Although they are cut-ptice because they have cut out the middle man so to speak they are still using the proper people to make up the glasses so I don't see a problem

As it happens, I have an opticians appointment this morning---I will get my prescription from them, and contact this place---although I am really hoping not to have to replace, as I had new ones only 2 years ago.

Maybe so but it is a good alternative to have up your sleeve.

Well, good news from the optician--my eyesight has barely changed siunce last year--plus my pressure fron the Glaucoma, has dropped since I started using drops about 3 months ago---was 24 & 26---today it is 15 & 16----What a relief, I was not sure I was doing the drops correctly, but obviously I am. Plus I now have my new prescription. So I will take a look at this place--must admit, it would be good to have a second pair, as I would be lost without them.

But it may have to wait, as I just paid £98.00 for a problem on my computer !!

And I have a couple of days booked in London next month---cannot remember what for just now--but I am sure it will come back to me .

Great news on the eye front and the point of knowing about INEEDSPEX is that it is always great to have options. My glasses have always cost such a lot of money even though I do not go for the expensive designer ranges but by the time you walk out of the shop you are lucky if you have change from a hundred. I am supposed to have glasses for reading as well as my distance but to be honest have never got it filled because of the extra cost. I was persuaded to buy because I didn't feel it was safe to go on such a long trip without an extra pair especially as I cannot drive without them.

Your outing in London sounds fun - wish I was going!

Thanks for the link Michele. I have received Two letters recently reminding me that my eye test is due, so maybe i'll consider this and take your tip, knowing that Dollond and Aitcheson seem to have a habit of making their spectacles where one arm always loosens, Is this deliberate or is this the way I wear them. Twice they have charged me for this repair and another time it has been free, Also I can never understand why they quote a price for their spectacles and when they are due for collection, there are added items like coaing, etc.
My friend Twice had her eyes tested while on holiday in Italy and her spectacles cost £20.
Having cataracts done has saved me a lot of money but I'm expecting a change now. :)
