L&H, who recorded "If It's the Last Thing I Do" - as the song is very familiar to me, but I cannot think of where I have heard it from. Was it from a film soundtrack :?:

Robert, I don't know if this is the same song, but I found Dinah Washington and Thelma Houston have both recorded a song called "If It's The Last Thing I Do".

Yes, Marian, I knew that JJ sang the "Bingo" line--I cannot at the moment remember who else included that line--or even if it was included in the original lyrics.

I found these lines as the original Miles Davis lyrics..

Once I laughed when I heard you saying
That I'd be playing solitaire
Uneasy in my easy chair
It never entered my mind.

And once you told me I was mistaken
That I'd awaken with the sun
And ordered orange juice for one.
It never entered my mind.

You had what I lack, myself
Now I even have to scratch my back myself.

Once you warned me that if you scorned me,
I'd say the maiden's prayer again
And wish that you were there again
To get into my hair again.
It never entered my mind.

It never entered my mind.

No bingo!

Robert , Sammy Davies Jnr also recorded the song with the Buddy Rich Orchestra.
I only mentioned "It Never Entered My Mind " in case there was the probability that may be the one you were thinking of.

Hi Marian--yes those are the words most often heard--did Jack put the "Bingo" line in himself, I wonder??

Well JJ was living here for several years, so he might have been influenced by the popularity of bingo at the time!

I listened to David Jacobs to hear I'll Take Romance, but I totally missed the Frank Sinatra song. I've never heard that song title before. Not that I'm the authority on standards, but it's certainly not a standard in the US.

I want to listen again anyway as I almost fell over with the compliments bestowed on Steve Wright's afternoon programme. I find Steve Wright's programme to be unlistenable, as he talks over every song and sometimes he even plays off Radio 1's playlist, 95% of which doesn't belong on Radio 2. I was shocked when he played Kanye West the other day.  :(

I now know how I know the song If It's the Last Thing I Do so very well  I have the song on one of my Frances Langford CD's, the superb quality album "So Many Memories" - Frances recorded the song written by Saul Chaplin and Sammy Cahn on 16th September 1937 - Frances sing's it so beautifully. I knew I knew the song so very well, but I just couldn't remember where from

I am listening to David Jacobs again. If It's The Last Thing I Do is a very nice song.

The selection I really love is Percy Faith's I've Told Every Little Star. What a beautiful Jerome Kern melody with a lovely, lush arrangement by the great Percy Faith. 8) :)

Now it's Mariana's favourite I'll Take Romance. :)

David actually mentioned Eleanor Powell (and Fred Astaire) at the top of his programme tonight, when talking about the Broadway Melody of 1940 8) 8) waiting to see if Matt has a song on the show :)

If It's The Last Thing I Do

Post by Alan Brown » Mon Mar 10, 2008 10:08 pm

Hi, if i may come in here on the song If Its The Last Thing I Do, the finest version of this song without a doubt is the Vic Damone version which was recorded on the10th of April in Hollywood 1961 with the Johnny Williams orchestra. It was released on the Columbia record label. All the Best Alan Brown

I may beg to differ on that Alan, being a Frances Langford fan
