2 Matt Monro tracks

Post by penno » Thu Feb 24, 2011 5:07 pm

Hi Richard,

Sunrise, Sunset and Green Leaves of Summer appear on You Tube but they are not on the complete CD I have of Matt's singles, nor on any other of my CD's.

Perhaps they were not released as singles?

I just wondered if you might know on which CD they might be if at all?

I note Matt's rendition of Green Leaves of Summer was much slower than the original music for the film the Alamo. It nonetheless shows off his voice to great advantage. Am I right though that it was not used in the film?

Regards,
Mark

Hi Mark---I am not Richard--as you see-but I can help with your query-

If you go to the Home Page and click on the "News "section--scoll down, and you will come to a series of "boxes" one of which is called "The Definitive track listing"--this useful feature lists all the tracks that Matt has sung, plus the Lp/Cd/single that they appeared on.

"Green Leaves of Summer" appears on 7 cds, and "Sunrise Sunset" on 4 cds---I think-if my counting is right---hope this helps.

I'd recommend the CD compilation Hollywood and Broadway. Both those songs are on there, as well as gems like Charade, If She Walked Into My Life, and Till the End of Time. Every track is wonderful, making this one of the best compilations. I also like that none of the "hits" are on there. Most of us have them on many other compilations, so it's nice to have a non-hits group. Through The Years is another fabulous non-hits compilation.

I agree with you there Paul---that is a really nice selection on Hollywood and Broadway.

Hi, I'm a little late on my own thread here Mark! -

No they weren't ever released as Singles.

Sunrise Sunset is from an album called "Invitation to Broadway" and Green Leaves was originally issued on an American LP called "From Hollywood With Love" only being issued in the UK in the 1990's.

Whilst the songs have been on a number of CD's,
Hollywood and Broadway is actually a deleted CD - although copies are still available through amazon.

Actually they are not as easy to find as you'd think. 'Sunrise Sunset' and 'Green Leaves of Summer' are only available on one CD now - Matt at the Movies - All the rest are deleted. So if Mark has only recently been collecting Matt's recordings then they would have been easy to miss.

If you want to wait until September then they will be on the re-issue of "The Singer' Singer" 4CD set in September.

As Marian mentioned, If you are looking for any particular song this list
http://www.mattmonro.com/Definitive.doc
should help you.

Richard,

Thanks very much for the information and sorry for the very late reply.

I will check the CD you mentioned. I saw Matt on Pebble Mill at One singing If I Never Sing Another Song Again and although I have seen it many many times before it always has the same effect - I can do nothing else while it is on!

I know I am rambling, but I just wanted to mention it.

Mark
