Our words weren't too bad from what I remember, they were mainly sung at Sports Day and were in praise of our team.

Good one with Clifford T. Ward's song Marian. :D

I think there may be a few more pf these about--herre is one, that I am surprised has not gone yet-

"Sir Duke" by Stevie Wonder

For there's Basie, Miller, Satchmo
And the king of all Sir Duke
And with a voice like Ella's ringing out
There's no way the band can lose

I am not sure who "Miller" can be, but I think the others are clear enough.

Mitch Miller Marian. A famous US musician who had his own orchestra. I'm sure Lena and Harry will be able to fill in much more about him. :D :D

Or Glenn Miller perhaps, but Mitch Miller had an even greater career in the music world and done everything as a musician, composer, record producer, singer and was particularly popular in the Fifties and Sixties when all the best vocalists were around.

I think Glenn Miller would be the most likely one, to fit in with the others listed---thanks for your ideas.

Yes, that is true Robert--but I do not think that they would fit in with the context of the sang, and the other singers mentioned.
