I think it tends to happen at matinees that the main star has a break and the substitute goes on--not always of course, or nobody would go to the matinees.

I have had pharingitis too, and it is pretty awaful--much worse for a professional singer.

Who played Eponine---I just love "I dreamed a dream", such a beautiful song.

He missed last night's performance too Marian. Hopes to be back on Tuesday.
Alexia Khadime plays Eponine, a beautiful really powerful voice.
A bit of a miracle too as she was white as a child but black when she grew up! A truly lovely singer though. :D

Thanks Marian-I have never heard of Alexia, but they would make sure that they had a great singer I am sure.

I believe when it started that Frances Ruffelle played Eponine-I know I have a 7" of her singing "On my Own" --which I think is the song Eponine sings, not "I dreamed a dream" which was Fantine. But boith great songs. Frances Ruffelle went on to try a pop career and recorded a not very successful cd--and I am almost sure she represented us at Eurovision. Plus, I think she married Trevor Nunn--but not 100% sure of that. She had what I would call a true "musical" voice.

Alexia is excellent and received massive applause yesterday for 'On My Own.' I love so many of the songs from Les Mis. She has quite an illustrious West End career having been in The Lion King, Whistle Down the Wind and Wicked. :D :D
I remember Frances Ruffelle, she was there for the O2 Anniversary concert with all the members of the first cast from 25 years ago. The present Marius, Craig Mather, looks very like Michael Ball as he did then. :D

Actually I am (or was) a Les Mis Fanatic, I have the UK & US albums, the complete symphonic Les Mis, the cd single from the Manchester show, the German cd, the Danish cd (as the Norwegian one was deleted). the 10th Annivesary show, the cd with Alfie Boe, Colm Wilkinson etc and the new blu ray disc.

Is there anything I've missed?

How about the video of the making of " Les Miserables ". Have yet to see it as a dvd, which is why I still have the video.

thanks Robert--now edited--I think it was just an unintentional slip of the fingers--with "f" being next to "G"--I am always doing that.

I think it might be too risky to try again Sandra, but we are seeing him at The Royal Festival Hall on 7th December. A sell out concert! Hope he stays well. :D
I hear Matt Lucas has been ill too and had to go to hospital.

Simon and Schuster UK has acquired world rights to a deeply personal and inspiring memoir by opera, musical theatre and singing sensation Alfie Boe, Rory Scarfe, non-fiction Editor announced today. In a very competitive auction, the rights were acquired from Felicity Blunt at Curtis Brown. The book is scheduled for publication in autumn 2012.

The book, titled simply ‘Alfie’, will offer an intimate account of Alfie’s childhood, growing up as the youngest of nine children to a family in the north of England, being talent-spotted while working as a car mechanic, bringing his music to fans across the globe, playing Broadway, as well as the legendary Opera Houses, becoming Jean Valjean in Les Miserables whilst developing a hugely successful recording and touring career

Alfie Boe said “I first want to thank Simon and Schuster for giving me the opportunity to tell my story, both personal and professional. It’s an honour to be working with such a distinguished publisher and I look forward to our time together.

My book will give an insight into the crazy mind of Alfie Boe and how it all began from childhood days in Lancashire to my time in London, trying to make my way as a singer. It will talk of the people who inspired me and maybe touch a little bit on the harder times of my life. There’ll be a lot of laughter and also some gritty tales of which all have added to the wrinkles or laughter lines around my eyes”.

Anyway hope you like my book……Wow! It feels good to say that!

Alfie Boe xx ”

It's surprising how many stars and celebrities began their careers from poor and humble beginnings, and nice to see this happen.
The book should be interesting.
Alfie sang Bring Him Home on Alan Titchmarsh show yesterday, and brilliantly too. :) :)
