Richard & Lee

Many thanks for both of your postings, I find this type of information very interesting.
Lee, I have heard 'Hits Of Yesterday' as a work colleague bought a pristine copy of it at a car-boot sale.
He lent it to me for one night!
I have to be honest and say that i didn't notice the difference in the phrasing, (but I did love hearing Matt on Vinyl, regardless of it being in mono!)

Richard, thanks again for sharing your knowledge!

Gray :)

Elaine Page played FRWL as the opener to her show today.
Great to hear it as I listen closely to the DJ's comments afterwards, usually they wax lyrical over Matt's gorgeous voice, Elaine was no exception! :)

Correctamundo, L & H!
Just a quick question for you, what would your essential 3x musicals be?

There have been so many fantastic musicals Gray, we could name a dozen, like "Les Miserables and Evita" for instance, excellent story, music and choreography, but at times somewhat depressing, but "Oklahoma" and"West Side Story" immediately come to mind simply because every song in these shows were a winner, and "Me And My Girl," a special favourite, because it was such a happy musical, and that's how we like to leave the theatre.

I find my favourite musicals differ between stage and screen.
On stage my all time favourite must be "Les Miserables" because it just has everything. All the musical numbers are memorable, and the story takes you through every imaginable emotion from laughter to tears.
There is also "Phantom" which is a magnificent spectacle on stage, and "West Side Story" from many years ago. I also have a fond recollection back somewhere in my memory, of enjoying "Hay Fever" when I was young.
On film, I would go for the big musicals like "Carousel," "Oklahoma" and "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers,"which can be portrayed better on film I believe.

It was a good couple days for Matt Monro on Radio 2. I just heard My Kind Of Girl on Sarah Kennedy's Dawn Patrol programme. I'm sure many of us would rather hear another song played for a change, but it's always great to hear Matt Monro on the radio.

"On a clear day"---you can trust David to pull something different out of the hat !

I'm listening to The David Jacobs Collection right now and heard the opening with On A Clear Day --- one of my favourite Matt Monro songs.

It was nice that Mr Jacobs received a note from Judi Dench telling him that she enjoys the programme. I think he has so many listeners from around the world.

The entire Sunday Radio 2 programme is unique within the world. You're so lucky you have BBC Radio. Sirius Satellite Radio offers Radio 1 in the US, but I wish it also offered Radio 2 and Radio 3. Then I would definitely subscribe.

Hi All

Thanks for all your essential musicals - very interesting!
It's tough isn't it with only three to choose but I would go for 'Jesus Christ Superstar', 'West Side Story', 'Oliver', 'Oklahoma', 'The Sound of Music' - aaarrggghhh!!!!!! :)

Jeff, BBC Radio is unique, I agree - & on a slightly different note (and I'm sorry to to bore you all with Leeds United again) but there is a bit of a fuss in Yorkshire at the moment as local BBC Radio Leeds have lost the broadcasting rights to Leeds footy games next season.
They are moving to DAB Yorkshire Radio.

I'm really disapointed with this as it means I will not be able to listen to commentary if I'm in the car out and about.
I do have a DAB radio at home though.
According to Leeds United, the BBC only offered £60,000 for the rights.
I'm sure none of you mind if the BBC up their offer to half a million pounds please, (so i can listen to the Leeds games in my car) it'll only be 18 quid per year on the license fee.
Thanks

We don't mind at all Gray, as long as you dont hear a bad result from Leeds United while driving and want to get out and kick the car in front.
