Lena and Harry's posting bought back some memories---my mum , my sister and I used to go 3 times regularly, every week--no TV then !!
The films were changed every week, so that was 3 main films a week, plus 3 "b" films---and I do not ever remember seeing the same film twice !
Long , long queues sometimes, and the frustration when the doorman would put his arm down , just as we got to the front of the queue--then standing down the side of the ailes, waiting for the next available seats---we sometimes had t wait ages as there were 3 of us---squeezing through , if the seats were in the middle of the row---and all this time the film was going on--so if you were unlucky, you would catch the last 15 minutes---then wait for the film to come round again, and watch from the beginning---even though you knew what the ending was.
Then there was also Saturday morning pictures at 6d, and a different film on a Sunday afternoon.
Some braver souls would try to get in free, by testing all the fire doors, as quite often , one was left open.
