Hi Marianna

I agree that Francesca sings modern songs well - just don't see here as Nancy - she's almost too pretty and clean cut - she reminded me of a kids TV presenter! She would be ideal in something like 'Tell me on a Sunday', with its highs and lows (Capped teeth and Caesar Salads still makes me smile, with Elaine Stritch doing the receptionist voice on the album we had!)

Georgia Brown was indeed the 1st Nancy and took the role to Broadway

I have 4 versions of "Tell me on a Sunday"---Marti Webb, Sarah Brightman, Bernadette Peters, and Denise van Outen--but I do not remember hearing Elaine Stritch on any of those---is that the part where she says "Have a nice day" ??

It certainly looked as if the writing was on the wall for Ashley, but as Graham Norton always says... nobody is safe, and possibly Ashley could be the next to go anyway.
Again Niamh, Sarah, Jodie and Jessie were great, but Rachel was fantastic singing "The Way We Were" The best of the night we thought.

Hello everyone - yes it's Amanda. Time to bore you with my weekly banter!

Just to say I used to be a theatre and film critic for my local rag and love the arts so anything like this really gets my juices flowing (and on Graham's nerves).

I'm really enjoying the show I think the quality of singing from the contestants is so much better than The Sound of Music wannabe's there is no clear winner - though I've said from the start it will either be Sarah, Jodie or Rachel! Who do I not want to be Nancy?
Niamh: though all the girls who I childmind love her! I think both her and Samantha would be better in something West Side Story or My Fair Lady. Not surprised Francesca went it will be Ashley or Keisha next.

Just wish they would sing more songs from musicals and that we could see more acting from them. I really enjoyed the snipets of them singing on stage in Wicked. Has anyone see that show? I would love too!

Well Sarah's performance inspired me so much I have decided to go brunette!!! I am going for the plunge! :)
She really is outstanding as is Rachel - I think Jodie looks the part the most but I think consistent Rachel or Sarah will pip her at the post.
Deep down I really hope Sarah wins.

Interesting to hear ALW has an understudy already in waiting, there were lots of stories about Connie Fisher I remember when she got the part but she did 8 shows or so didn't she? Did you see her all vamped up in a Sunday mag the other week? Will she work again? I see Aoife is singing now in SOM.

Hi Amanda-good to hear from you again---you could be right about Niamh--Much as I like her, I am finding it difficult to imagine her as a tough Nancy. I like Sarah's voice--but again, hard to imagine her as Nancy. Even as a brunette!!

I agree with you on song choices--some songs are just "pop" songs-like Jessie singing "Why do fools fool in love"---so how can it compare to "The Way we were"--incidentally, I did not like Rachel singing this song-although I seem to be in a minority.

Connie was on TV recently, saying she had other things lined up--a new cd out soon--a part in a tv comedy. Aofe has been understudy in SOM fir some time, so I guess it was natural that she would take over from Connie.

What did you think of Francesca leaving-I seem to be the only one sorry that she has gone.

By the way--I would risk changing my hair colour-if you do not like it, it will grow out-eventually-I have done mine so many times, and been all colours--not black--I loved red best, but it does not suit me now--but it is fun trying !!

Hi there Marian!

Seems a have started a debate on hair colouring!!

Just a quickie as it is too early for me to function without caffiene in my system... I was up too late watching Deseperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters that Graham had taped for me. I love the American shows!

I think Rachel sang beautifully! She's a contender!

So this is the debate on hair colouring I have just been reading about! I started going grey about 10 years ago, but normally just blame it on the light  I think as a man it is better to go grey gracefully but I guess women have got more options

Mariana - Elaine Stritch appears briefly during the interlude on 'Capped Teeth and Caesar Salads' on the Marti Webb album - she is the receptionist that answers the phone at Mr Stigwoods office and asks the caller to leave msg before inviting them to 'have a nice day'! I think she even got an album credit for it! TMOAS was unique, I believe, in that it was televised by the BBC before it ever opened. So it seems the BBC has been 'advertising' ALW shows for a lot longer then Kevin Spacey is claiming!

As far as the Nancys go (how Graham Norton keeps a semi-straight face when he tells us another Nancy has to go I don't know. Am I allowed to say that - even as a gay man :?:    ) I think Jodie looks the part, but as I said before, she just reminds me of Jane McDonald too much! Sarah has a fantastic voice, but like many of you I think they need to be singing some more appropriate songs that will show their range a bit more.

And Amanda - with you all the way on 'Desperate Housewives' - last weeks episode was hilarious! This season has got off to a fantastic start with some hilarious moments and some deep intrigue. Love it!!

Thanks for that info Mike--I will check out my Marti Webb recording-I have only recently realised how much great music there is in that show.

I suppose the thought of Graham "looking for a Nancy" was bound to come up with some comments--but he does not seem to mind, and is treating it as a bit of a joke I think--much the best way.

I do actually quite like Graham Norton, although at one time I never thought that I would.

I was surprised ALW kept Ashley this week, especially after his comments last time, with which I agree: her voice is unremarkable and she has little stage presence, though she perhaps looks the part of Nancy more than one or two of the other girls (incidentally she attended the same theatre school as Connie Fisher, Mountview). A number of the contestants are good, e.g. Niamh and Jessie, but they don't look right for Nancy and I think that's why they will ultimately get the push. But I guess the benefit of being on the show is that they will get professional exposure and gain entertainment work elsewhere, as Aoife did, which they would not otherwise have got.

I wasn't too keen on some of the songs chosen this week. I usually like Naimh, but I didn't like her song.
This week my favourites were Samantha, Rachel and Sarah, but I've a feeling Jodie and Jessie will probably get the most votes.
The sing off I should think will be between Kaisha and Ashley, and I think Ashley will go this time.

I did not like the song that Niamh sang- I liked Sarah and her song--but still cannot see her as Nancy.

I think Jodie is getting better by the week--when she sings a ballad she is really great--both last week and this week---at the moment she is the only one I can see as Nancy.

I agree that Keisha and Ashley will be in the sing off--but I would not like to predict who will go--quite honestly, it could be either one.

I missed last nights show, but the sing off comes as no surprise! i quite like Kaisha - although it must be really difficult being a black woman in this contest as Nancy is not a role that you'd associate with a black singer.

Wasn't Georgia Brown black Michael? :? :? On second thoughts, maybe not.
I'm probably thinking of another singer.

I'll let Amanda say more in a bit when the results are broadcast, but the three best performers by a country mile for me are Jodie, Rachel & Sarah.

Hello everyone Amanda here.
Just to say how much I loved the show it's going to get really interesting now with Keisha's departure.
We still believe Rachel, Jodie or Sarah should win the role.
Our daughter Holly is very excited about next week's show as it will be songs from High School Musical her favourite musical!
Much love
