Hi Marian(a)
Let's have a linguistical look at the stuff
that makes the world go round:

GIRL GETS BOY

A female may titivate,
it means primp or preen,
to make herself appealing;
then she may titillate,
cause or induce a keen
mutually amorous feeling.

LESSON IN LOVE

'I love you.'

The most meaningful words that may be spoken
because of the profundity they betoken.
In a simple grammatical connection,
I is the subject and you is the object
when expressing such heartfelt affection.

All together now, aaah...

Keith

P.S. I wanted to edit two posts but the facility
has gone awol?

Keith,
The edit facility should be available on your postings if you are signed in on the forum.

Marian, my dear,
Thanks for trying to help this hopeless technoprat.
Unless I'm mistaken, just below this posting it will
say: 'You cannot edit on this forum'. I must be doing
something really stupid.

Hi Keith-that seems strange-I know you cannot delete an item if someone else posts after you, but editing should be available at all times-I should know, because I have to use it a lot !

Hi again Keith.
The "You cannot edit posts" only comes up before you sign in, it then changes to "You can edit posts".
The only thing I can think is you are trying to edit postings when you are not signed in.
The edit logo should come up next to "Quote" all the time you are signed in.

Hello again, Marian, my ministering angel.
Normal service has been restored. I think
the moral of the matter is 'get it right first time'.
My thanks to you and to our administrator
for showing such forbearance and grace
under great provocation.

Hi Jon,
I didn't mean to give the impression that I was in favour
of the abolition of the semi-colon. I have great affection
for the old punctuation mark; I regard it as a helpful
halfway house between the finality of the full stop and
the feebleness of the comma; it also serves as a useful
device to separate distinctive ideas within one train
of thought. However I concede to its detractors that
it isn't blessed with a prepossessing appearance.

Hi L&H,
You asked for this, but thanks anyway.

FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS

Writers fret about who and whom
lest they come a grammatical cropper,
yet the main precondition
one grudgingly concedes,
on which whom is deemed proper,
is as the object of a preposition
the linker directly precedes:
To whom it may concern
and the person for whom I yearn.
In other situations all you need do
is shelve whom and use who.

Keith

Note. Some linguists say the knell of doom
should sound for the social climber whom,
but perhaps it will get a stay of execution
provided it is immediately preceded by a preposition.
(For purists who wish to preserve the grammatical
distinction, who refers to a subject pronoun and
whom refers to an object pronoun.)

P.S. 'And apart from that' this Forum's computer
substitutes the word none for a word similar
to situations. Here endeth the lesson.

Hi Keith--that really helps me, as I am never too sure when to use "Who" or "Whom".

At one time there were undesirable postings on here [now thankfully eradicated], but because of this if any word was used that could be considered "unsuitable", the forum replaces it with "none".

We are mostly all used to it now, and quite happy with it, as we want to keep this forum a pleasant place for all to visit.

Hi Marian(a)
Thanks for that. Hereunder another couple
of poetic distinctions, just for you.

SEASONS (Able & Al)

Spry Spring brings her seasonable
sunshine and showers,
sultry Summer shows off his seasonable
soaring temperatures,
and Autumn wears her seasonable designer dress
of 'mists and mellow fruitfulness'.

Autumn also provides seasonal
employment, i.e. fruit-picking,
while old Scrooge winter gives us seasonal
unpaid work: de-icing and snow-clearing.

Keith

Seasonable, dictionary definition: in due season,
timely. Seasonal: according to season.
