Christmas no.1

Post by ROBERT M. » Thu Dec 29, 2011 1:43 am

It's nice to see a Christmas no.1 other than the X-Factor winner :) ..........Little Mix' release of Cannonball was released a week too early ( :) :) ) ........so was overtook to the Christmas no.1 by true worthy winners The Military Wives Choir with Wherever You Are :) :)
"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On" :(

I agree Robert. I haven't heard the song yet, but anything is better than the X Factor winner's song. It won't be a happy new year for Simon Cowell. Yes, his contestant won on the US X Factor, but she will flop big time. She doesn't have star appeal.

Paul, I think you are right! Once the hype dies down on her, the cd will be regulated to the cut out bins. It will be a shock if she has any lasting power at all.

I think a lot of it may be down to the songs they choose for Melanie-if she just does Whitney etc etc copies, , that will not help her career.

I watched the programme on the Military Wives the other night, and thoroughly enjoyed it-although I think it was a compilation from a series earlier this year. I am so pleased it got to #1--a real different sound. I think it was helped along by Chris Evans, who promoted it tirelessly, playing it every day, and even having a competition, for other choirs to send in their version of the song.

Mariana, I just hope for her sake she doesn't become one of those female singers who does "vocal gymnastics" that it takes away from the melody. Maybe she'll come up with some new original material and surprise us all...me included.

Yes Eman, I agree---Mariah Carey is the other singer I was trying to think of-she tends to do that a lot !

That is funny, Eman.

I guess they would all have quite nice voices , if they all sang "normally"---like Celine, with "My heart will go on"---another one I really like is "Colours of my love" which involves no crazy singing.

Mariana, You are so right, when they sing the melody line straight without all that screeching and note holding they are good. However I feel like sticking my fingers in my ears or just plain getting sick when Screamline Dion sings "All By Myself" or Mariah Scarey sings "Without You" blahhhhhhhh...or Christina Iwillbarealla (I will bare all-a vice Aguillera) singing "Beautiful"..LOL
