Did anyone hear Tony Bennett sing the song Country Girl on the Russell Davies show tonight, what a beautiful song, I could just imagine Matt singing the song
The song was written by Robert Farnon, and Russell told us, the song was originally an entry in the Eurovision Song Contest
.................it was just heavenly
"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On"
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On"

Hey Robert - some great songs HAVE come out of Eurovision - most famously 'Volare'. OK - so the list ends there if you want ones that have been repeatedly covered
from this years selection, here are some of my favourites:
Casanova, Gisella (not McKenzie I am afraid!), representing Andorra
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wd4QcnVHvgM
Ishtar, representing Belgium - in a totally made up language that has the sound of a Eurovision song from about 50 years ago!

Ani Lorak, representing Ukraine singing Shady Lady - this is a favourite to win
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlQ03amvLuo
Charlotte Perrelli, Sweden, Hero

Andy Abrahams, UK - I'm not really sure how this is going to do on the night but I think they've made a good job of remixing it to give it a bit of a Eurobeat

The excitment is mounting!
Tonight sees the 1st of two semi-finals, when 19 songs will be reduced to 10 to go ahead in Saturdays Final. The 2nd Semi is on Thursday. In a valiant attempt to stop the neighbour voting that bedevils the show, the EBU has decided to split the countries up a little in these semis. Only those countries taking part will be able to vote, with 9 songs being chosen by televoting. In addition to those countries, 2 of the 'Big 4' countries will also be voting in each semi-finals. And in a final twist (if I am reading the rules corrrectly), 1 of the 10 qualifying songs will be chosen by jury.
Tonights line up include
1) Belgium, with the folk song in a nonsensical language (maybe Flemish?)
2) Ireland, and that Turkey!
3) Andorra, with their very catchy 'Casanova' - pure Eurovision pop
4) Greece
5) Russia
6) Norway
The next semi is on Thursday, and both of them can be watched on BBC3 hosted by the fantastic Paddy O'Connell.

Thanks for the links Mike.
We have just watched the comic Irish entrant on the box
Well ....don't want to burst anyones bubble but, bookies have labelled Andy Abrahams the worst UK entrant ever, at 66-1, but we've got Terry's backing, but at the same time Tel's worried that if we get nowhere again disenchantment might take hold.
Let's hope the new voting system this year makes a difference.
But we're all going to back Andy aren't we guys... YES.!!!!!!

Hi Everyone,
Poor old Dustin the Turkey has been knocked out of the semi-finals!
This means that Ireland won't be taking part in this year's contest.
Maybe our European friends thought that Ireland were taking the mickey[or the Turkey] out of the contest and they could see that Dustin couldn't go on to appear on the show this Saturday.
I do feel sorry for the Irish people as they do have some wonderful singers who were not picked to represent their country this year because they lost out to a.......puppet!
